OK, but I want to see some of these new guys play in a canuck jersey and play within a canuck system before I get too excited. Fan expectations should be at an all time low.
- bloatedmosquito

I think the opposite. We should all realize that busts can happen and development can derail, but this is the first time in a decade we have been able to actually get excited about our prospect pool.

The reality is probably only Juolevi will be an NHLer. Look at who Toronto took with the first pick of the second round. A no name Russian who scored 6 goals and 6 assists in 41 games. I had no idea who picks 25-30 were. This was a bunch of no names this year.

I am also weary of the whole 'potential' dynamic. That's why I don't understand people clamoring for trading a guy like Hansen (for a second round pick as was suggested by some, which I feel is a significant under-evaluation). If you have a player that is of decent quality, reasonable age, and good cap hit (all of which apply to Hansen) you do not move him for 'potential' - at least in my opinion.

I think a lot of people have unrealistic views of anticipated success from any first round (and even second round - despite what history has shown/dictated) picks. Yes, it's exciting and 'sexy' to draft new talent but realistically there is only a very small fraction of players who are drafted that actually live up to their 'potential'. A lot of people seem to ignore this aspect, especially in and around the time of the draft where excitement and expectations often override common sense

I would take a proven player every time over 'potential' unless we are talking about a generational talent. Something to think about when discussing a team's anticipated success going forward

100% correct. My thoughts exactly.

Should be eberle or hall for hamonic now if it doesnt happen just pure stupidity on Edm part
- The_Kuze

Speaking of stupidity;

Of course You knew that hamonic rescinded his trade request as soon as their season ended.
And snow never wanted to deal him in the first place ...
But I'm with you bro. Logic be damned!! Make it happen you idiot chiarelli

Solid post though

Yup there were a lot of us . There were also a lot of us in here asking who the fuk is Hutton and Boeser. It sort of evens out doesn't it?

Remember when Bo was drafted? Nucker fled for 3 weeks

It's hilarious, Tkachuk and Juolevi played on the same team - and everyone on that team, from the coaches on down, thought Tkachuk was the better player. But, not Canucks fans! We know more than the coaches apparently...

I'd love for you to show me a quote from Dale Hunter stating that.

Did anyone do good in their own mock drafts? I got 5 correct but only 22 out of 30 correct in the first round.

Very true. In Hutton's case we got to see him play at the NHL level and were pleasantly surprised. I think in Hutton's case excitement is justified. The rest

Benning is also smart enough not too draft the same type of player year after year.
- manvanfan
huh?
Dont compare chiarelli and Benning

At this point, their resumes aren't anywhere near comparable. Maybe that'll change, but at present...

Also, interested to hear your thoughts on which defenders they should've drafted since 2010 instead of "the same player year after year"

Dale would never say that about any player on his squad. The guy is a development machine.

They only drafted 1 Defender in the first round since 2010 (Nurse) the rest have been forwards. It's really hard to say "who" they should have drafted because if they would have drafted different players they could have been drafting at different places in the standings.

YAK has been such a fail, after he was drafted I think it set the club back another 5 years.

In general, that's the draft where I distinctly remember analysts sayiung that from a need standoint Murray is the obvious choice. He looks like a solid #2 guy going forward, which would have made him the best d-man on Edmonton right now. Hindsight is 20/20, but honestly Murray went #2... it would have been the better pick then and now for them.
