"Feel free to call me a brat for thinking these things, but I feel perfectly rational."

Feeling rational isn't having a sky is falling perspective, this is rather irrational. You are a "fan", a true fan has trust in an organization and doesn't need to micro manage for a position they don't hold in the organization.

I get the mentality of loving a sports team and being passionate about said sports team. However having the mentality of a 7 year old and complaining about everything a team does only shows ones ignorance. This is not signally out you personally, this board is just loaded with hilarious points of view. I seriously wonder if there are only 5-10 year olds on here.....we can all remember back to when we were children and cried when our team lost....well I seriously think some of the so called "adults" on here never grew out of that mentality. One just has to look in the mirror and realize hockey while may be a big part of life, isnt life and anyone complaining or in the sky is falling mentality is in a state of delirium and disillusionment. It shows no trust and no loyalty, its a paradox you have to understand for yourself or continue to act like a 7 year old.

Who is worth signing? Honestly, this roster doesn't need tweaking.

I'm hoping Vanek can be snagged for a cheap 1 or two year deal since he got bought out. Hes 32 or 33, still got a great shot and some juice in the tank.

The goalie situation will work itself out. Why worry about it more than the FO is worrying about it? They've got it covered, no big deal.

And they'll sign one of Schultz or Lovejoy. Boom, 7 NHL D. Which is what they had before trading for Schultz at the deadline last year. No worries.

And Bengtsson is a very promising guy really - certainly more promising than Warsofsky. The Penguins can also find another Warsofky/Erixson type AHL lifer ala Chorney no problem.

I just think if there was ever a time to have a little faith in those running the show, it's now.

If they would have listened to this board's pleas for the last year or so, the Penguins would be in awful shape.

- hardnosed

Hoping you're right. Not gonna be comfortable until the season starts and I see what what we have. Usually I spend my summers worrying about Notre Dame football, but after years and years of futile hope I've finally come to the conclusion that they're beyond saving. The Penguins are all I have.

Because we have so many options for LW..

Be realistic.... after Wilson, who else do we have on the LW?

Kunitz is gone after this season, we got poop for LW depth.

Wanting to protect Murray ASAP and grab defensive depth is the train of thought of a 10 year old. You're right.

I'm not asking for the moon here. I'm perfectly fine with our top 4. Hell I'm fine with the top 6 granted DP turns into something. Wanting a 7, 8, 9 guy is so minor.

Vanek is toast though. Minny just bought him out. They're paying him to not play. We don't need that type of player. Wilson will be given his chance this year.

I don't love our LW situation. I just hate Vanek even more.

Vanek doesn't make us better. Would rather have Sheary playing on Crosby's left than Vanek and I've been pretty vocal about thinking Sheary's not a long term solution.

Truth is we don't know what we have in Wilson yet. Could be the second coming of Chris Kunitz, or it could be he was just on a hot streak before he got hurt.

Truth is, I'd love to add a LW, but it's not vital. I'm fine with our forwards. I think they can be improved and we currently have guys playing in bigger roles than they should be, but we can most definitely win a cup with them. I'm more concerned about our defense when injuries hit.

Sorry I think that him at 1 mil is a no brainer. Yeah, hes going downhill... but hes not dead weight yet.

Being not worth 6.5 mil isn't exactly an insult. The Wild overpayed him, we can take advantage. If Kunitz, Sheary, or Wilson gets hurt... we are borderline (frank)ED at LW.

I view him the same as Semin, except a LOT less risky.

I'm kind of liking the goalie pick now. With Murray going to be here a long time, we can possibly flip Jarry for another part. Imagine if Jarry kills it this year in the AHL.
- madmike71

Then he'll be another promising AHL goalie which is worth at most a 2nd rounder. Matt Murray, for as good as he was, didn't have trade market value until he posted a .925+ sv% in the NHL.

We have LW call ups in Simon and Guentzel. You can always use more depth, but you certainly hit a point where depth is acceptable. Our LW depth is acceptable even though none of the players on the depth chart is spectacular.

Oh I am not saying Vanek for Sid's wing... maybe for Geno's. But I still want to experiment with flipping Sheary and Hags.

If he can be had for 1 mil... I see zero reason to oppose this. Hell, we gave 800K to Bennett to not play

Well if we can get Vesey, I will gladly buy a used Vanek Wild jersey, and piss on it.

Apparently teams were trying to pry Murray away from the Pens before he actually had much NHL time.

I looked up his stats yesterday and he had 41 points in 74 games. Not great, but that's easily worth a mil a year. I doubt Pens even go after him or if he's that cheap. Also if a guy was ever motivated this would be the time.

Because we have ~2 mil in cap space and we need to use it on... well I don't need to keep repeating myself. We can't waist any cent of the limited cap space we have after deciding not to trade Flower.

I did say, "if he would go that cheap".

I just don't want to hope for the same youth luck, if we get hurt on LW.

He signs for 1 mil... someone is bumped down... we tack on only ~200K or whatever it is in more cap. By not paying entry level.

Sheary's the only guy waiver exempt and he has value to this team. I'm not sending Sheary to the AHL (which I believe would also be insulting) for Vanek.

Kuhnackl, Rust, and Wilson were all on expiring ELCs this year and got extended. Sheary and Sundqvist are the only two remaining Wilkse Barre Fivers who are on ELC and thus waiver exempt.

I know. Was supporting your idea. Just added in my opinion I doubt he goes that cheap or Pens were interested.
