listening to the draft on wgr now, man they were certain a d was being the pick
- homiedclown

I was at the draft. Said to my friends if Nylander was still on the board, they would take him. One of my friends knows Mike Shop pretty well. Talked to him for a bit. He seemed surprised at the pick as well. This is the weakest draft class for defensemen in a while.

So do we trade some of our picks today. Fowler? Yak? What's the buzz?

I know. The way some talk about Murray, he belongs in a movie.

Sabres were smart, didn't move 8 for Fowler, didn't reach for Chychrun. Took a skilled player

- sbroads24

Which means Murray was smart?

It's ok, you can say it even though I know it'll hurt for you to say it.

On the Fowler note, I don't get why people thinks the chances for trading for him are now gone because they don't have the 8th pick anymore.

With the first round over, the Ducks received a reality check on what Fowler is worth and now they either accept less or don't move him.

A few ideas for the next few rounds if no trades. This would be my choices.

2nd- Lucas Johansen- D Kelowna
3rd- Jacob Moverare- D HV71 (SHL)
3rd-Maxime Fortier- RW Halifax
3rd- Dylan Wells G Peterborough

There stands a good chance that Johnasen will be gone before we pick in the 2nd and the same could be for Moverare in the 3rd.

Washington took Johansen at #28....so you are correct

Agreed on the Fowler comment.

My Facebook status at the draft said something along the lines of "all I ask is that they don't trade #8 for Cam Fowler".

Nobody thinks trading for Fowler is a bad idea or impossible. It was involving #8 that would have been the catastrophe.

Murray was smart. There wasn't a market and he didn't force it to move up or get Fowler.

I just find it funny how some were saying he was going to "put on a show" like he was going to force Jarmo to move out of 3 or he was going to do something with Stamkos that wouldn't make sense.

Rumor is that the Sabres did offer to trade for Stamkos's rights, but Tampa still believes they can sign him. They have 10 picks today. They have to trade a couple for the mere fact they can't sign 10 more contracts and do stuff to the big club in the offseason.

Yeah. I'm still going to bet this years top dmen are better than 2010. Look at it. It's (frank)ing terrible.

Anyone else like Kale Clague? Feel like he'd be a good pick in round 2 or Niemeläinen.

It wouldn't surprise me that they tried. Takes 2 to tango. Murray can't offer and accept the same trade

I know Murray isn't making all 10 picks today. All I ask is that he makes one trade for a roster player today. Preferably for a defenceman but I'll take any roster player at this point.

I don't think Murray ever considered moving 8 for Fowler. They had 2-3 players targeted at 8 and when Nylander was there at 8 it made that decision very easy. There could still be a trade of Girgs and a 3rd for Fowler, we'll see.

Yeah it's pretty weak. Pysyk might be the 3rd best defenseman in that class behind Gudbranson and Fowler, neither of whom are world beaters.

I like Niemalinen, has similar skill set in d zone to Risto. Morrison or Mascherin could be a good choice at 2 as well. I think Clague might get picked before we do at 38.

I'd probably even take Pysyk over Gudbranson.

At the end of the day I think you're right. But the rumors were coming in from a lot of places, legitimate places. Couple that with Murray's propensity to go after a player he wants at a high cost if need be, I couldn't help but be scared.

Don't think he'll be there at 38, but Debrincat would be nice.

I was concerned as well. I'm pleased with the Nylander pick. We needed speed badly on the wings. If we sign Vesey that would be an interesting future line- Vesey-Eichel-Nylander.

Both would be good choices though as would handle and Greenway. Gmtm was talking to somebody and finished with a handshake.....

Look out for dinner hall I the 3rd - bruising dman out of Kitchener. I was talking to him yesterday and he said gmtm likes him a lot (interviewed with BUF) and said they might take him in the 3rd round
