Don't you already have his rights, and thus are able to sign him BEFORE July 1st? Or is July 1st irrelevant, and Aug 15th when he becomes a free agent.
I must have read 6 different contradicting versions of this by now, and I still have no clue which explanation to believe.

You don't need to steal headlines to "win" anything. We aren't competing with Toronto. We're competing with Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington and the other good teams.

Gonna have to agree with Buffalo on this one here. TM should be focused on just making smart moves/decisions for Buffalo alone and not worrying at all about "stealing thunder" from anyone. Especially Toronto. He has to be smart about the cap and spending money, trading assets, and just stay the course in building the team back up. As pointed out Toronto isn't even in the mix of teams to be concerned about beating and getting into the playoffs.

I can see Buffalo just going and getting the draft done and over and then waiting to "make a statement" in FA and not trying to waste picks with getting rights etc.

Those buses, man, those Toronto to Orchard Park buses. Smh.

They have his rights now but Murray said in his presser that they cant sign him until July 1st.
