opinions: who is biggest Free Agent acquisition the Sabres have ever had? Not trade, not draft. By name/production. Go.

For the most part, I think teams have a good indication if a player is going to sign with them if they trade assets for rights. If Buffalo does trade for Stamkos rights, it is most likely because they are confident that they are very close (yeah, I believe teams speak to players when they shouldn't, maybe not direct, but they speak - who really doesn't believe this?!).
trading that asset is still a good thing to do because no one can pop in and steal him away before the contract is signed (if it's already close).
