I'm sorry. Excuse me. Did I just hear that Detroit flipped Datsyuk's cap hit for a first?
Huh. |

Arizona now has Pronger and Datsyuk. Perhaps putting together an All Star can't play team. |

Have never seen Fabbro play. He's a BCHL player, so all I have to go off is the various draft pubs, pundits.
The McKeen's review was lukewarm about his top-end upside, although they like him as more a defensive D than some other sources are touting.
“I don’t see him scoring a lot of goals and points in the pros,” said one scout. “I think he’s a penalty killer...he’s pretty strong, yet not that big, so you can’t expect him to be punishing at the next level. I see him as a future number-four defenceman.”
Fabbro will play at least a season or two at Boston University before making the jump to the pros, and it will be hoped that his skating and offensive game continue to develop.
“He’s not an exceptional skater, but it’s fine,” noted one scout. “He has a strong stride and base. He’s not overly dynamic, but smart, competitive and poised. Coaches love him.” - bmeltzer
I'm not sure of his ceiling either. I think he could be a smart #3 perhaps -- steady but not exceptional point producer. I'm not the biggest fan of his, but his hockey sense is very solid. If Bean was there, I'd feel more comfortable about taking a D.

That is insane. How do we get stuck with massive contracts all the time while Detroit sheds an entire contract to fall back a few spots.

They moved down 4 slots, got a second and moved Datsyuk's deal.
This is why I never thought any other team was going to be able to compete with Arizona for Datsyuk's deal. They were happy to take him on and would take any asset in the end. |

Very small price for Detroit to pay to move Datsyuk, just as I thought. |

The reason Arizona wants Datsyuk's contract is because its a cap hit without an actual player requiring a payout. We don't have any of those anymore. |
