First of all, I agree 100% with everything you stated here. I'm just amazed at how you came around on Schenn.

I was down on him when he would got 8/10/12-plus games without a point, because to me, that's just nothing more than not wanting to be a factor. He was too talented to be that inconsistent

But he had a strong finish to the year before last, which i discounted as garbage time points. He was a different player to me this year, with and without Couturier, sometimes with Giroux. He did the job at the level it needed to get done and for once, instead of him being a reason they missed the playoffs, he was one of the three or four biggest reasons they made it, with Ghost and Simmonds and Mason/Neuvirth

No, 1 million is not the difference. I think Simmonds is better than Schenn. He's also older. I am OK with trading either if it's not for the sake of it and meant to improve our chances as a perennial Cup contender in a few years. They each have their trade merits. Simmonds still has 3 years on his sweetheart deal though.

You sign Schenn if nothing presents itself and live with it. I simply think Schenn is a good, not great, overrated player that benefits from usage. I don't view him as a core piece. If you can trade him for what you view as a future core piece, it's an understandable trade in my book. I don't think we will be a Cup contender because of having or not having Brayden Schenn.

This is exactly how, many of the analytics community, for lack of a better term, goes off the deep end. How Schenn was used, is exactly how a player with his skill set should be used. Instead of looking at it as part of the strategy of the game, and using players in the right role, it's used as a criticism to downplay how good a player is. That's the convenience of analytics for some. Use them any way you want to, to make your case.

I don't think it matters if you were wrong or not, everyone is wrong at one time or another. I think what matters is looking at why a conclusion was wrong. Hell, you may still up right. He may decline. Never know. I don't think so, but we never know. I also think those saying this team wouldn't miss Schenn and he can replaced, are wrong. This is a team that needs more offense as it is. Taking away Schenn would hurt them significantly. Suggesting Gagner as a replacement, is actually funny.
