I'm lukewarm on him. I love a bunch of d men in the 3rd. I think it would be a fantastic round to find 1 or even 2, like Hexy wants. Or a faller forward. It wouldn't be awful, but he is not on my personal list of targets/favorites. The poor skating is a major concern. As is if he has already peaked. If he slips to 4th round perhaps. But even then, I just seem to like some others.

Kuznetsov, Vladimir LW – Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL) – 6’02”, 214
HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 101

Kuznetsov is a tank. He’s big, strong, and tough to knock down or take the puck away from. He was the first overall selection in the CHL Import Draft last summer, and coming over to the Titan and getting a lot of ice time was a key in his development this season. His skating will need a lot of work over the next couple of years, as he lacks explosiveness and agility. He’s very strong down low, doing a lot of work below the hash marks. Small defensemen in the QMJHL are often overmatched against Kuznetsov’s pure strength. He can score with his big and heavy shot. He has good positioning in the offensive zone and knows where to go to receive passes, getting his nose dirty in front of the net if there’s a rebound there. Kuznetsov needs a playmaking center to be successful; when placed with Antoine Morand, both had great success, due to Morand’s playmaking abilities. When not paired with a playmaking center, he had more difficulty. We would like to see him more involved in the play and more active in puck battles instead of waiting to get the puck from one of his linemates. We kept knocking him due to his skating, but his offensive tools were tough to ignore. He can score, but his playmaking abilities are underrated. He has good poise with the puck in the offensive zone and can wait at the last second to make a pass to a teammate in a scoring area, especially on the power play. We love his offensive tools, but he does worry us with his below-average speed and the fact that he has seemingly already reached his peak in his physical maturation process, compared to other draft-eligible players.

Sounds like this year's Lawson Crouse.

Sources report that a deal between LA and Philadelphia is imminent. Key parts are the rights to Milan Lucic and Shayne Gostisbehere. The source who reported this also reported that he was "drunk as (frank)" at the time of the report.

I really have no interest of trading Sanheim or Morin unless we're moving into the top 3. Even then, I'm hesitant.

He went back to the OHL ("Most NHL-ready player in the draft besides McDavid/Eichel") and had a marginal increase statistically.

So. I get it. I've read it. I just want to make sure I am saying this as nicely as I can, because I disagree with this premise strongly:

I'm not saying you can't trade Schenn. Nor am I entirely opposed to maximizing value on an asset. But I cannot express how strongly I disagree with the idea of trading him for, in essence, a draft pick.

Just say Schenn is what he has been, 40-50 points. Say the 59 points is a complete aberration. He is more 18-20 goals, 25-30 assists. That's what he is.

But we're saying that we went through five years of development for that, missing the playoffs twice as he developed and was a factor in us missing it, only to trade him for another draft pick in hopes that draft pick might be...what, exactly?

I'm serious. I need it spelled out to me -- we're trading the known quantity for an unknown. Not another developed asset at a different position. Not a roster player.

But a draft pick who we would then wait years to see if they can a) play, b) play as well as Schenn, and c) be better than Schenn.

I'm sorry. I realize it's opinions, and we all have them. But that is something I am unwilling to do. Because if the best I have to root for is five-year rolling cycles of development in search of "not too hot, not too cold, just right," for 23-25 year olds, that is simply unacceptable.

Because at some point, you have to build a team. You can't build a team around prospects and hope for the future, all while plugging in the Teddy Purcells of the world for a year here, two years there, while throwing more darts at the board and then bringing a Brett Connolly while the 2016 darts are thrown, then when they don't work out in 2020, we sell them for 2024.

At what point do you say "the 50 point guy is good enough," and let's address things we don't have instead of creating more holes?

When does that happen?

I don't want the Flyers to be the Sixers where we just keep trading our drafted players for more draft picks. At some point, we have to be happy with what we have and give the guys a chance to play. So, I say keep Sanheim and Morin and let's see what they can do this year. In order for me to move them, it would have to be a ridiculous overpayment (and no, I will not be giving random examples of that).
