Well, if you're dumping Schenn, the idea would be to use him as a top 6 forward. Let's not act like Schenn did not have the third highest o zone start % on the team this year behind the defensive stalwarts of Cousins and Laughton. And the second highest quality of teammate on the team. Hate to break it to you, but Schenn's usage is basically the sam as Gagner's career norms, Arizona year aside, where he has been a 40+ point player.

I also think Gagner improved his game during the second half, after being grossly misused during much of the season. Schenn is better. The idea isn't to find a better player. It's to find a better value player on a shorter term deal for long term gain.

- Mononoke

Schenn got 52.4% OZ starts last year and scored at 1.95 points/60 at 5 on 5.

In Arizona Gagner got 64.3% OZ starts and scored at 1.41 points/60 at 5 on 5.

To LA - Andrew McDonald (50% retained) and the rights to Brayden Schenn
To PHI - 2016 4th rounder

LA then signs Schenn to a 5 mill / 5 year deal

LA then trades us Schenn at 25% retained and Tomas Hyka
PHI gives up 2017 first rounder

So Anaheim trades Fowler for Schenn and clearing Stoner's $3.25M?
- PhillySportsGuy

I could actually see that as being a fair trade. Stoner is basically a tiny bit better Schultz. He's surprisingly average as a possession player and a solid PK'er. But he is signed for 2 years at an ugly cap hit of $3.25. 1 year would be OK, but that 2nd year....eh.

So we're basically trading our 2017 first round pick to get rid of AMac and save $1.25M on Brayden Schenn's deal?

Sense, I like making it.

Yes, in Arizona. That is 1 year, on the third worst team in hockey where his most common linemates were Martin Erat, Tobias Reider, and Lauri Korpikoski. I said his career usage, with similar starts and teammates is similar to Schenn's ES numbers.

No one is saying Gagner is better overall than Schenn. It's a question of finding some value and points short-term to offset the loss of Schenn and bridge the long-term gain. Doesn't have to be Gagner. Purcell could be a name. Or someone else you can think of. For his estimated contract demands, you could even add a bottom 6 player too short term.

I'll post some Black Book reports if anyone wants, in prep for the draft. Just not the same 3 names we all know everything about already. Maybe even some non-1sts if you can think of any.

I'd be interested in hearing what the Black Book says on Vladimir Kuznetsov. Would he be a good 3rd Rd target?

Schenn is a 30/60 type (or so the idea to maximizing his value goes)....Anaheim has a plethora of D, wants a top 6 forward. They are aiming to win NOW. Tough guy who likes to hit; would be good in the west. Stoner is a cap dump. And on a 2 year deal. We shouldn't have to add.

Sources report that a deal between LA and Philadelphia is imminent. Key parts are the rights to Milan Lucic and Shayne Gostisbehere. The source who reported this also reported that he was "drunk as (frank)" at the time of the report.

haha nope, 100% was on the hinkie train. after a decade of mediocrity it was a welcomed sight for him to come in. every team he joined he left in a better situation, and id say the same for Philly, unfortunately he wont be able to reap the benefits.

almost feels like ed wade to me, all of our core pieces were drafted under his regime. he may be a bad transaction-al/financial GM (trades, free agents, contractsm etc.) but i guess he drafted well.

Fantastic. Now we just need someone to mug NJ and steal theirs as well.

Also, whoever had that paper in their possession (why did hard copies of it exist) and lost it should be fired ASAP.

id approach him if nothing worked out at the draft and in the FA market. if we havent upgraded our top 6 at all, id give him a 2 year/6.5-7 mil deal and tell him your playing on a playoff team on the top line with giroux and simmonds, deal with it.

I'm lukewarm on him. I love a bunch of d men in the 3rd. I think it would be a fantastic round to find 1 or even 2, like Hexy wants. Or a faller forward. It wouldn't be awful, but he is not on my personal list of targets/favorites. The poor skating is a major concern. As is if he has already peaked. If he slips to 4th round perhaps. But even then, I just seem to like some others.

Kuznetsov, Vladimir LW – Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL) – 6’02”, 214
HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 101

Kuznetsov is a tank. He’s big, strong, and tough to knock down or take the puck away from. He was the first overall selection in the CHL Import Draft last summer, and coming over to the Titan and getting a lot of ice time was a key in his development this season. His skating will need a lot of work over the next couple of years, as he lacks explosiveness and agility. He’s very strong down low, doing a lot of work below the hash marks. Small defensemen in the QMJHL are often overmatched against Kuznetsov’s pure strength. He can score with his big and heavy shot. He has good positioning in the offensive zone and knows where to go to receive passes, getting his nose dirty in front of the net if there’s a rebound there. Kuznetsov needs a playmaking center to be successful; when placed with Antoine Morand, both had great success, due to Morand’s playmaking abilities. When not paired with a playmaking center, he had more difficulty. We would like to see him more involved in the play and more active in puck battles instead of waiting to get the puck from one of his linemates. We kept knocking him due to his skating, but his offensive tools were tough to ignore. He can score, but his playmaking abilities are underrated. He has good poise with the puck in the offensive zone and can wait at the last second to make a pass to a teammate in a scoring area, especially on the power play. We love his offensive tools, but he does worry us with his below-average speed and the fact that he has seemingly already reached his peak in his physical maturation process, compared to other draft-eligible players.
