There should be no + if you're trading Schenn for 8-10 to take a guy like Keller or Brown. Unless the + is VDV.
- Feanor

Maybe maybe not. Frankly, I don't see why a team like Buffalo or Montreal or Colorado would even want Schenn for their 1st. I could see all 3 asking for someone like Morin though.

Per sources:

There is definitely some phone calls being made between NHL front offices right now. Or, perhaps there aren't. The only thing that can guaranteed is that there will be a flood of trades tonight containing high draft picks and some key players swapping teams, or we could see no trades of any significance tonight. If trades are made, expect the Flyers to be one of the players, or don't. e4

Flipping Morin straight up for a pick to take Logan Brown would be pretty interesting. Honestly I think Morin alone only gets you around the 16th or 17th pick at best.

The idea of picking up Keller, who can either enter our top 6 as a game breaking LW in 1-2 years, or start out as 3C....all while working towards being our future #1C in a handful of years when G slows down (still awesome) and maybe could be better used at wing or something, I simply don't see how Schenn has more value to us long term than that.

Resign Gagner for 2 years. If used in a role like Schenn for a full year, he can make up 40+ points of that. Lord knows he played way better than him in the playoffs when called upon and was terrific during the stretch. Another interesting name is Teddy Purcell...he's just as strong an ES scorer as Schenn while being a slightly better possession player. He can get you 40+. Give him a 2 year deal or something. Schenn's 50 points can be recouped in the short term. And then long term it might not be close.

- Mononoke

You watched a different Gagner to me last season. He's not quick or strong enough to be a 40 point guy any more unless you do what Arizona did and give him the 2nd most ice team and easiest usage of any forward on the team.

The primary goal here is to get Clayton Keller. The ancillary goal is to prevent him from being a New Jersey Devil. Any (frank)ing team in that range but the Devils.

The sources are reported to be deep within the braintrust of NHL teams, but that is yet to be confirmed by the sources reporting on the sources.

You obviously don't understand the context that must be used when evaluating statistical data.

The entire NBCSN experience from pre game show to game to post game show is an utter disaster. It's almost like they don't want me to watch the games.
- PhillySportsGuy

It all feels so second rate. Here's my shortlist in progress for making the NHL look like it's not Hallmark Channel programming:

1) Instant ban on mentioning where players went to school, grew up, or played junior hockey (except newly drafted players). Broadcasters will instead talk about players' professional careers.

2) Considering Mike Milbury always appears in the center of its frame, it's safe to say we should scrap the entire intermission show. Like, literally destroy the set and salt the earth. It will be replaced with either a new show built from scratch, or more ad time in order to increase HRR.

3) It may be necessary to have a full on explanation of the game of hockey before every game. Nobody pays attention to that part of the broadcast anyway, so no harm no foul.

So it makes sense then when you say you really havent paid attention since the early 2000's.

Thats what Hinkie was trying to change.

Anaheim trade Fowler ($4m) to Buffalo for #8, then trade #8 + Stoner ($3.25m cap dump) to us for Schenn + VdV (UNDump).

Schenn signs for 5 x 5 and gives them the extra top 6 scoring they were missing for most of last season.

yeah i do pay attention to the league actually, i guess i shouldve said it hasnt interested me since the early 2000's. im a die hard so i get jazzed up every year at the draft for the NBA then am disappointed by halloween (joke).

i loved what hinkie was doing, absolutely loved it. im so pissed the NBA had to come in to the equation. Im 100% in the thinking that if the NBA didnt "step in", and Hinkie didnt resign, we wouldnt have gotten the first pick. i think cause the NBA stepped in, and we acquiesced to bring in the Colangelo's, we got the first pick.

wouldnt put it past Mr. Clean on atkins.

You forgot about Roenick looking awkwardly into the camera as he stutters through some incoherent remark.

It would probably go a long way toward helping the league if there weren't canceled games every 5 years due to labor disputes. Maybe try signing a 10 year deal next time!

Well, if you're dumping Schenn, the idea would be to use him as a top 6 forward. Let's not act like Schenn did not have the third highest o zone start % on the team this year behind the defensive stalwarts of Cousins and Laughton. And the second highest quality of teammate on the team. Hate to break it to you, but Schenn's usage is basically the sam as Gagner's career norms, Arizona year aside, where he has been a 40+ point player.

I also think Gagner improved his game during the second half, after being grossly misused during much of the season. Schenn is better. The idea isn't to find a better player. It's to find a better value player on a shorter term deal for long term gain.
