The fourth best record in the East is scraping into the playoffs.
Get your facts straight. - MidnightMarauder
That was a silly post from that guy, they were not hot obviously going into the playoffs but they didn't back in. And even if they did, that still wouldn't have meant they couldn't have made a run. We've seen teams in the past look terrible going into the playoffs & turn it on & get hot & make a Cup run. |

I want no part of what's gonna be a terrible contract for a slowing Milan Lucic |

I don't know, does Lucic really not fit AV's system? - jimbro83
Just seems like AV don't care for tough physical players. |

I like him as a fit here but NOT for what he'll be offered. He is 1 concussion away from becoming the next Ryan Clowe. |

The 2012 Kings immediately come to mind in regards to your last statement.
The circumstances that surround the organization show plenty of fault and bad decisions in personnel management but this is what often happens when teams shoot for the moon.
I like that the Rangers were in a position to contend, for several seasons, but they really left those left behind with a bit of an inherited mess.
Teams can "go for it" without doing severe damage to their salary cap and prospect depth. I think that is why there are so many fans on the ledge. |

Lucic, Backes and Okposo are going to receive the three worst UFA deals of the off season.
Yandle's contract sucks but he will be effective for at least three or four seasons of it.

Funny I started to type Ryan Clowe and thought maybe I was being dramatic
I think he either stays in LA or goes to Vancouver |

LA sounds done, they've been negotiating w him since April I thought his agent said but havn't come close to a deal. That has to mean he's asking for BIG money. |

Which means stay away. Let the Canucks get saddled with that contract for the next five or six years.
If the Rangers can't nab Stamkos they should try to sign depth forwards like Helm and McGinn.
Backes, Lucic, Okposo, Eriksson, Vrbata and Boedkker are all going to get a lot of money and all are not game breaking players.

I'm happy about it. Back end not terrible if he stays healthy. These contracts seem the norm. |

Not much between his ears to concuss. If Lucic goes home to play in Vancouver he can only run over Ryan Miller in practice. |

If I'm a GM with a late 2nd/ early 3rd and that's the asking price I'd do it. He's what 22 years old? At worst you traded a late 2nd for a 3rd line RW with some upside, little risk with the possibility of a big reward. |

you really think they'd take a third for him? that would honestly be worthwhile in my opinion. people have paid that much just to talk to players. might not amount to anything, but why not for that price? |

Next blog, which I am working on with an Expansion Draft one. Here is one clause from what was revealed yesterday: "All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits)."
The question is what is the definition of professional? Is it one who is in the midst of their ELC? Is it if you have used up your rookie eligibility in year one pushing you to year two? That definition will determine if Skjei must be protected. I am going to look at the CBA and see if the term is defined. - airjan23
Thanks Jan. This is confusing stuff, so I appreciate you looking into it for us.
Also, as I read the rules, it seems Girardi would have to protected because he has a NMC at the time of the draft (2016-2017) year, not because of his 2017-2018 status. Either way, I assume he would be moved or bought out before the expansion draft, i.e. they don't have to do it this year. The only benefit lost would be having him exposed and count as the 1 defenseman who had played the requisite number of games. That's the big loss IMO. |

I would absolutely give up a 3rd for Yakupov and roll the dice. Trade the 4th and 6th from Yandle to get us a 3rd back. |

Cap space for Minn is tight and I think they're trying to acquire Stepan and make Coyle their #2. Kid has everything I like in a player though, size speed and a little grit |
