I will make this criticism about dealing Yandle to Florida, didn't Sather not trade Talbot to Florida for what would have been a better return than Edmonton cause he didn't want him in in the same Conference? Maybe he should have - KreiderBomb
the Hagelin fiasco should be a huge lesson going forward that trading a player to the Western Conference means squat, they always come back |

I think the Sharks offered their 1st rounder for Talbot and Sather/Gorton tried to get Yakupov from Edmonton and by the time they decided to accept the Sharks' offer, the Sharks rescinded it. |

I think it is a dumb premise anyway. Goal number one should be to worry about your own team and how you can make it the best possible team. |

I really really doubt the Sharks offered the 9th overall pick for a goalie that would have been a UFA after one season. I have heard this rumored a million times, there had to have been more to it, like another player from the Rangers |

Clauses
NMC for whole duration of contract, modified NTC for 2017-2019 (player provides list of 15 teams to which he cannot be traded)
Source:
General Fanager
This is the NMC for Girardi as listed on General Fanager. If this is correct, despite the NTC kicking in next season, the Rangers will have to waste one of their 3 protected D spots (along with Staal) on Girardi for the expansion draft because he has a NMC that runs the life of his contract. Rangers couldn't have given Yandle his NMC without exposing McDonagh (assuming they can't get Girardi or Staal to waive theirs). |

So worst case scenario if the Rangers do have to waste a protection on Girardi in the expansion draft....can they buy him out next offseason first?
If that is the case, maybe I can deal with that |

Organization has made so many mistakes. Still am so mad they didn't haul back a fortune at the deadline for him. |

If Bickell can be traded, surely the Rangers can add to Girardi to get a deal done, assuming he's willing to go elsewhere as a serviceable RHD with money retained??? |

Rangers might have dealt Yandle at the deadline if McDonagh hadn't suffered the two cheap-shot concussions. Still doubtful that Yandle gets dealt when the Rangers believed they could make a deep playoff run. |

I don't know if I did this right but here's the expansion Draft rules.
I think the tricky part for the Rangers is going to be having two forwards under contract and one defense under contract who played the requisite games. Klein will probably be the d man. Forwards = no idea. Hayes may get a 2 year deal. - WineryDog
Next blog, which I am working on with an Expansion Draft one. Here is one clause from what was revealed yesterday: "All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits)."
The question is what is the definition of professional? Is it one who is in the midst of their ELC? Is it if you have used up your rookie eligibility in year one pushing you to year two? That definition will determine if Skjei must be protected. I am going to look at the CBA and see if the term is defined. |

IDK, DG has been on a steady decline the last 2 yrs. This will be the longest offseason rest he's had in over 5 years so maybe with us retaining significant salary he can be dealt. I think though the organ-I-zation wants to give another shot this yr to see if he can bounce back. |

Would be like Girardi/Hayes, Girardi/Kreider, Girardi/Miller for a 5th. |

I have no problem seeing Yandle go. Yes, it would have been nice to get so much more back at the deadline, but as many have said, they thought they had a shot to make some noise. The bigger problem is that management didn't see that the team was most definitely NOT going to make any noise come playoff time.
The main reason I don't think Brady should feel too much pressure is that he doesn't need to replace Yandle. Because Yandle never fit the system! We need a D-man that can make that good 1st pass out of the zone. Yandle always wants to carry it out and trying to make that adjustment is what got him into trouble so often. SO often.
We don't need to replace Yandle...we need to move on from him to the RIGHT defenseman. |

Thats why I said right after that trade, anyone wanting to dump Girardi better be willing to pay a hefty price for nothing in return. Best bet is what Jimbo has been saying, try to move Staal, hope Girardi can play another 2 years then buy him out. That would work out the best all around I think. |

The Sharks ultimately traded their 2016 1st and a prospect for Martin Jones although I think Jones was only going to be an RFA? |

yea if that is the best trade scenario...it would make much more sense just to buy him out |

I would have never offered Yandle that contract. Too much for too long. Add that NMC and it'll be a nightmare deal in a few years. Guy can move the puck...yes; but he is a D-Man that has trouble playing defense. |

Yandle is the best player in the league at moving the puck....

Call me crazy, but I think that is a horrible contract. Not a fan of the money for a guy like Yandle (but I guess that's the market these days), but that term is horrendous. I think Yandle sucks, though, so my opinion of the deal reflects that perceived suckage! |
