Deal Murray. CGY has wanted him for at least 6-8mos, apparently has offered their #6+ for him already. Get that up as high as you can and swing the deal at the draft. Then, turn around and deal #6+ to CBJ for #3 and laugh away... |

Is Zatkoff not looked at as a reliable back-up for Murray? I am legitimately asking. I have only seen him play once or twice. - SolidGoldBricks
I think he is a capable back to a proven goalie. If Murray falls then you have no one to fall back on because over the long haul i don't think Zatkoff can keep up.
Zatkoff scares the hell out of alot of people (he looks lost/spastic in net at times). |

If Fleury is dealt, I'm not sure I want Zatkoff as the primary backup in this instance. Zatkoff was perfect backup for Fleury because he was cheap and we really didn't need to rely on him to play many games. MAF is a workhorse. If Murray is the top guy, we need someone capable of playing 30-35 games in the event Murray struggles a bit. Carter Hutton would be the perfect fit as Murray's backup. More expensive than Zatkoff, but has the ability to play that many games if needed. |

Can he play 20 games throughout the year as a backup with spot starts? Meh, we could probably get by.
If Murray got hurt for an extended period, or had an issue in the playoffs, where we needed to rely on Zatkoff? Hell no. - YouMeAndDupuis9
I see, I see. I saw him play pretty well, but like I said definitely not enough to know him. |

Foolish? Even if we don't swap with CBJ (who apparently really want to drop to #6ish), getting the rumored #6+ for Murray is the thing to do...his value is insanely high now, and PIT doesn't need him...they have Fleury for another 2-3 years at least and there is no big cap issue as people seem to keep saying...seems like the only reasonable thing to do... |

Combining separate ideas.
If we end up trading Fleury. Think there's any chance of a Kunitz for Elliot trade?
St. Louis seems to like players like Kunitz and they could potentially lose Brouwer or Ott as their grit UFA guys. Pens get a solid backup goalie and some cap space. Both contracts expire next year. |

We rarely agree OP, but if I see one more trade proposal with fvcking Wideman I'm going to kill a kitten. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Engelland is also available, and is cheaper too. Win win. |

Zatkoff can be excellent, but he's all over the map. He will post a 35 save shutout against a good team, and next week he loses 5-1 to a basement dweller. |

Ha. I don't want any Flames defenseman outside of Brodie or Dougie. Dang you guys spent a lot of money on the back end. |

What rumored #6? It was JR being an idiot, or shooting for the moon for Fleury. He isn't worth that. Trading Murray for the number six plus is also just a retarded notion as well. We don't yield anything good on the NHL roster for two or three years following the draft. Utterly pointless. LOL at your post saying Calgary has wanted Murray for 6-8 months and has offered the 6 overall plus.
Reasonable thing to do is deal the guy that is our backup making 5.75 million for the next XXX years, the one who had two concussions in two months and usually struggles in the play-offs.
There is a cap problem. The people who think we don't have one I don't get. We are up against the cap and have bigger problems next year. |

Dealing Malkin to the Blackhawks would be one thing if Brent Seabrook was still good.
Malkin for the good version of Seabrook would line up pretty well for the Pens and their team needs and their cap needs. The salary difference covers Maatta's raise. The Pens need defense, IMO.
However, Seabrook probably isn't good anymore, so there goes that idea. |

I still think Murray got ripped of for not winning the Playoff MVP..... Lets see who Team Canada plays on the ice when the game matters in the world cup... - francisryan
Ok, lets see when it happens, if it happens and whatever that means "when the game matters". Oh yeah, I'm sure if they're down by a goal, Crosby won't be allowed to skate. Only the great Toews.
BTW: Here's the voting on the Conn Smyth. I guess all the Crosby and Kessel voters know much less than you.

Next year will be a lot more affordable, with (ideally)Kylington and TSpoon and Jokipakka hopefully being good enough, and almost 12mm of garbage coming off the books. For now though it is pretty ugly. And no, I dont really think any team will trade for Smid Wideman or Engelland. Too bad. Maybe they all get injured in the offseason and stay on LTIR |

Grow up... if these athletes cannot play in the first round of a postseason because in the prior four years, they averaged 10 more games a season, they shouldn't be getting paid. |

Sounds like you need a good goaltender for next season, and then a good goaltender for the next two years to transition to the younger guys. |

Nice read Gunner. Love the "trolley" effort with the Geno/Toews comparison.

I honestly think it takes something like Backlund and the 35 though most Flames posters don't seem to agree. I dont know if 2 2nd rounders will be enough for GMJR. Somehow I doubt it will be. Which is a bit of a shame as Backs is a really good 3C and defensively responsible. The problem is he doesnt exactly fill a need for Pitt. Maybe Colborne but I doubt that is too exciting either. TB may end up being the best trade partner. |

Can't wait to hear expansion announcement today. Should help clear poop up.
Also I think the pens NEED to move Flower this year before draft and Kuni, for cap space to be blue to go after one good UFA and bc their value is high |
