Draft both Gustavsson & Hart & Parsons.....
The C position should be shored up nicely when we add Stamkos & Matthews to Kadri, Bozak & Nylander. We can afford to take all 3 G's - Davey_Crockett
not a bad strategy...but I doubt that the Leafs end up actually drafting 11 or 12 players this coming Friday - saturday.
I think a few of the pics - perhaps as many as 2-3 are used to move up or as part of trades.
If there are big questions for Stamkos at this point (I doubt it... he knows who can and would afford him)... then teams going after him would seem to need to have a good visible path forward...
and for the Leafs the big question mark would be guess what?
yes the question mark is Tatoo... yup he can serve drinks on Robidas Island... but he's not much of a goalie.
I'm thinkin' Uncle Lou makes big move for goalie at or just before the draft. |

no disagreement about the value of good young D-men.... but here's the related question
i) how many of the Anaheim's defensemen who are signed for a multiple years at more than 4M+ are top 2? top 4?
.... I know I know ... they would all be top 2 on the Leafs
ii) where does Shea Theodore fit in the top 6 ... if he's even in the top 6?
iii) how much value would Anaheim attach to dumping Bieksa at this point? - BorjeFan4Ever
I think the guy is Fowler. Lindholm and Vatanen are their future. Both better than Fowler and, my guess is, they would like some of the vets to give them a chance now. They have enough cap space to cover everyone. Murray likes to get picks and/or prospects. I think they deal Fowler for a top prospect and a second round pick. |

He was crazy good in 93, would have been rookie of the year if Teemu didn't score 70 odd goals. Being a die hard Leafs fan it always left a sour taste in my mouth how they treated him and showed him the door. - ISRLabradorLeaf
He just wasn't that good. At the time half the goalies in the league were still not playing the butterfly so he looked really good. Once all the guys started playing the butterfly he was below average at best. Didn't hurt that Burns was the coach. He made Stephan Lefebvre look like Rod Langway.
Belfour and Joseph were head and shoulders better. Once Joseph replaced him it was quite clear that he was on another level.

Joseph was over rated. He left the Leafs for the Wings who at the time were a power house and became the weakest part of the team, and the wings had to bring back Hasek. Belfour, I got to give it to him, he played some great hockey in Toronto at a time when he should have been on the decline in his career and he did it while pushing 40 with major back problems. The leafs haven't had a elite goalie since Eddie. |

What?
Edit: his number were the best of all goalies in 2004 playoffs (gaa and s%) not counting thise that only played one game. The wings were shutout 2 times (last 2 games) and only scored 12 goals total in 6+ games.
The weakest part of the the team wasn't the goalie with .930s% and low 2 gaa. |

I can see that although this is the year to stock up on draft picks and select as many as 15 times. It is a very deep draft and we are at the beginning of a rebuild so we can afford to grab a much of prospects.
Either way, gonna be a good week for Toronto.

I hope you are right that the Leafs add Stamkos. I think Toronto is his first choice, but the re will be plenty of competition for him, NYR and Detroit among those teams. I also want the draft to include goalies. I really believe the Leafs will be moving up into a second top 20 pick for a d-man, if they don't, they can get Gustavsson with #30 and Parsons with #62. I am fairly sure they will not be able to get Hart - unless they use both 30 and 31 - which I believe is unlikely.

while i wouldnt say he became the weakest part of the team i will say joseph was a bit over rated in toronto
his numbers really weren't all that great... not bad... but not great either... he is remembered fondly by toronto fans because of the playoff runs...but i wouldnt call him a great.... good... but no.. not great |

Agree - he was a decent goalie, better in the playoffs. Remember him in 92-93 with St Louis, was about a .500 goalie in the regular season but stood on his head in the playoffs.

He was definitely a great goalie to have in a clutch position. That last playoff run he was playing with a broken blocker-side hand and still stood on his head.
Unfortunately we have no use for a guy who is clutch in the playoffs right now. We need someone who is going to get us there. |

Not tolling, just keeping score for Kinggilmour..
1. Arizona will sign a new goalie coach within two weeks (this was a month ago)
2. Stamkos has already agreed to a contract with the Leafs for 9.1 to 9.3
3. Bozak and picks to be dealt today (which was yesterday) or tomorrow (today)
4. JVR to Carolina or Anaheim for a goalie.
this post has nothing to do with the Maple Leafs or their fans. Just people on this site who claim inside information. - rmiethaner
Yah, this is pretty ridiculous.
What about Girgensons/Ennis, Pysyk and the 8th pick for: for pretty much every player and draft pick you can think of.

i just want the leafs to land someone who will stabilize the position... be a lot easier for the young defense if they have faith in their netminder
i still have a feeling the leafs might target andersen to play that position while they draft and develop their goalie of the future.
the leafs need a goalie who is younger but experienced right now... any goalie they take this year will be a few years away |

I have a source connected to the Leafs, and he told me "the Leafs will try to sign a couple of UFAs in the summer."
Now, if I'm right, that'll prove that I have a source, but if I'm wrong, I'll come up with an excuse as to why it didn't happen. Deal? - Steven_Seagull

To Montreal:
1st overall pick, Bernier, Lupul, JVR, 31st overall pick (Tor 2nd rounder), Percy, 2017 Ott 2nd rounder.
To Toronto (conditional on Stamkos signing; hence Toronto would need to trade for Stamkos rights before draft):
Price, PK Subban (1.5mln retained), 9th overall pick. - MaximusAurelius
No Thanks - 1st of all do you want to pay top dollar to a d-man who is not as good as your current top d-man? 2nd Price had a sensational season in 2014-15, but he was out this year and if memory serves me correct, almost lost his job to Halek in 09-10. Great goalie - but has some blemishes. Wouldn't make this deal.

i have absolutely no idea why everyone keeps using jvr in trade scenarios
its not happening folks
the leafs have 2... thats right... only 2 legitimate top 6 forwards with nhl experience... kadri... and jvr
thats it
the leafs wont be trading either of those 2... not for a year or two if it even happens
the leafs arent about to put all the offensive responsibility on a group of rookies |

I agree with this, not even sure if Kadri qualifies as top 6, especially if Stamkos and Matthews are part of this team moving forward. Signing JVR is a real problem though. Players signing team friendly deals, want overcompensation on their next deal - see Joey Bats.

dont get too far ahead of yourself here
both Cs you have ahead of kadri either havent proven anything at the NHL level or... simply arent the leafs property
it will be interesting to see if the leafs go after stamkos... i mean obviously they look into it... thats their job... but with the prospect of having a matthews kadri one two punch down the middle might be enough to temper the leafs efforts regarding stamkos
