Yep. Move 72 up to 1LW and coach Panik up to play 2LW.

72-19-81
14-15-88

Your top six

Desi, Kruger, Lundberg and ?,?,?,? for the rest of the cap (around $5MM)

D and G stay the same.

Moving any one of the core guys now makes absolutely no sense.

- Return of the Roar

Wait your asking Q to coach...

And no guarantee moving a big salary out doesn't mean taking some back.

Example: CC for JVR - save $1.75MM

Still need a goalie.....for less than $1.75MM to gain any cap space.

Time for McD to retire One Goal and bust out "Hey, these kids can skate".

- Return of the Roar

Now it seems if they don't move CC, "one goal" is what we'll see scored many nights.

Not criticizing your scenario, but wouldn't we only have one right handed d man? There would be a couple guys playing on their offsides...again.

Nice read JJ.

There are so many problems here that many Hawks fans need to realize. Not saying that a lot already don't see the problems that lay ahead.

#1 Seabrook's contract. Yes, he's only a 1 mil a year raise from this past year. Not bad. But for the next 8 years?? He showed that the miles are piling up and while my "Hawk heart" loves him, can we honestly call him a 6.875 mil a year player in 2020?

#2 Hossa's contract. He's at 5.275 mil until 20-21. He showed last year that he's going to be a great second and third line guy. Solid defensively and a great two way game with some offensive spark. But does any team want a bottom 6 guy at 5.275 mil? Easy with the pitchforks Hawks Nation. We need to wake up as a fan base and accept that he's getting older and regressing in ability. Does he still bring value and experience? No question. But for that kind of money....

#3 Prospects and draft picks. The Hawks have been aggressive in going for it year after year. One can argue that Bowman sees the window is open and wants to squeeze as many cups as he can during that time. Others would say that he's mortgaging the future in order to keep that window open. I.E. we need a defenseman and Stephen Johns at 800k was a nice piece that we had to give away just to get rid of Sharp and his contract.

We, as fans, have been subjugated to such mediocrity from 2000-2008 that we almost love to see this aggressiveness. But I, for one, want to have some levity from the Hawks when making these deals. Some deals make sense while others, I feel, are senseless.

Hossa has a no movement clause. So shipping him off and his contract isn't as easy as one thinks. Retirement isn't an option because of his cap recapture penalty. If Hossa retires after next season, that's 4.275 mil against the cap until 20-21 for a guy not even on the ice.

Trading Crawford away is an option but what's the return going to be?
Trading Shaw away is another option but again, what's the return?

No one is about to do the Hawks any favors. They know that they are in cap hell right now and after seeing them rattle off three cups, no one is going to be anxious to help them get back to the top of the mountain.

So can we blame Bowman and praise him both in the same breath? You're darn right we can. Signing Hossa, as bad as the contract may be now, was the right move that helped bring three cups here. Ends and means. Watching the Hawks lose guys like Brouwer, Niemi, Versteeg, Ladd, Frolik, Eager, etc. and seeing them replaced with young talent or guys who were just scouted well like Panarin deserves high praise. But facts are facts. Winning equals championships and championships equals more money.

Did Bowman overpay for Toews and Kane? "Probably" not. Did he overpay for Kruger? "Probably" so. The Hawks still have the talent to squeak out another cup or two with the current core but it will take some of that Bowman magic to find the right depth players to fill out the bottom three on D and the bottom six at F. But fans need to wake up and realize the hard numbers.

The Hawks have 23.68 mil a year committed to Keith, Seabs, Crow, and Hossa. All of who are on the wrong side of 30. Hammer is 29. Throw his salary in and that's 27.7 mil. That's 37% of a salary cap set at 74 mil, assuming it gets there. So yes, things are not as pretty as they once were and we may have to stomach another nice player like TT or even a core player being traded before Stan has the cap flexibility to work his magic.

Bottom line, the fan in me says that the Hawks put together three cup winners and minus one bad bounce in game 7, in overtime, the Hawks likely would have had four cups in seven years. Not to shabby. But we can't carte blanche give Hawks brass a free pass either. Had Stan pulled the trigger on the Sharp trade at the draft last year, we may have kept Oduya. Speculation yes, but very likely. What would he have meant to them this year? A deep run or even a cup run? Maybe.

I love this team and I support them fully. But we all need to take a deep breath and realize that things aren't pretty right now and trading Crow, as bad as that may be, might be the only option we have left for building a serious contender. Interesting times ahead for sure.

Ya...but I was just trying to make it a deal Edmonton would like too. I doubt the likes of Gustafsson or Svedberg would cut it.

With the cap number out..

Adios Andrew Shaw and Corey Crawford. Warm up the Rockford bus. Gonna see a lot of youngsters.

- z1990z

Don't want to see "a lot" of youngsters: I want to see a couple of youngster identified as possibly future producers, given enough time in the show to develop and prove their worth (or lack of worth).

Stop the weekly shuttle - they need time and minutes to grow.

No disagreement here. The deal is not a bad one. I can definitely see EDM and Buffalo as potential partners.

D adds Kempny and loses Rozi. Still an upgrade.

Blame the league. They took back half of what the union gave in accelerator.

Pretty sure i know the answer but does stan think of trading Kane? Send him for a kings ransom, sign okposo for about 4-5 mil cheaper. Send craw to edm for talbot and yakupov.

Then turn off nhl16 without saving....

I'll be the first to say I was wrong about CC. He's a solid top-15 goalie, top 3 when he's in a grove. Buttaking one's emotional attachment out of the equation as best you can, and taking the dropoff in every position's replacement into consideration, if you can get a first for him its a no brainer.

Fowler plays big minutes there. I could see Carlyle continuing to use him a lot. Not sure he would be available.

Lindholm would be the guy I want. I think JVR + something good would be the cost.

Vatanen is probably the guy most likely to be on the move. I would think he’s pretty close in value to JVR.

- Tumbleweed

Lindholm has 55-60 point potential they ain't giving him up. Take the 25+ minute a game minute eating 38 point shut down 24 yr old with 5-6 yrs experience and sign him to a max contract. He'll be 32 and still near the top of his game at contracts end and you have an 8 year Hjalmarsson.

Vatanen nice offensive guy but nowhere the complete player Fowler is.

If the d stays the same and this is our lineup, Hawks dont make the playoffs in my opinion. Instead of panik at #2 lw maybe the hawks can get umberger under a mil
- ikeane

You are aware that Umberger is done, right? By done I mean sucks. A lot.
