What does Calgary faithful think of this proposal:

To Flames: MAF

To Pens: Ortio, poirer, 2nd rd pick

- Kunit

Mmmm....it's maybe a little much. Switch Poirier to Klimchuck and we might have a deal! Although not sure why the Pens want Ortio? The Flames might want to give him a little more time.

A. Nylander should be almost as good as W. Nylander.

Nope. If we are getting Fleury then we'll need to keep Ortio on a cheap contract for the back up. And I still have a strong belief in Poirier becoming a good NHL player. Too much from CGY IMO.

I'd be very happy if they pick Nylander at 6. I am concerned Tkachuk will be gone, Nylander will be there, and they dont pick him due to 'size' issues. Very concerned.

Am I reading to far into this, the fact that Raymond or Wideman have not been put on waivers for a buy out yet makes you have to believe that BT must have some takers?

Wides is going to Pitt and they will like it.

I think the deal to get Fleury will look like:

Pick #35
Klimchuk

for

Fleury

I hope it looks like:

Pick #56
Agostino (Who would be signed to a new deal)

for

Fleury

..... Can anyone else see that I am still a little bitter towards Pittsburg over how they fleeced the Flames over the Iginla deal. Well now it looks like the situation has flipped where they need to get rid of a player and have few options to deal with.

Agostino? Lol.

Id be all for Wideman 56 and half retained (if necessary) for Fleury.

Tell me why mayray and wideman need to be bought out. Their contracts are done next summer. It makes no sense to pay them in 17/18 to save a couple mill for one season. Mayray can stay in Stockton, and wideman is serviceable until the trade deadline.

Calgary is basically the only team that is in the market for a goalie. I don't think a prospect will have to be in the deal. For maf alone #35+#66 at most. Hopefully BT can talk him into a bit less, maybe both late 2nds, or a late 2nd+#66.

But to get Fleury they would have to get rid of Niemi or Lehtonen....which....needless to say will be damn near impossible!

I think the GM values Sam Bennett above ANYBODY else on the roster, he is going nowhere

Pens won't take either of Dallas' goalies back. I think Winnipeg is content with pavelec and hutch until hellebuyk is ready. If Toronto does want a goalie right now, they'd be much wiser to hit up anaheim. They have the pics to get it done, plus the cap space to take maybe bieksa, plus they're in the east.

Edit: I also don't think he waives his ntc/nmc for Winnipeg.

With a lot of what's being said by management wanting to get bigger I would be surprised if Nylander ends up a Flame.

If Dubois (unlikely) or Brown are there when the Flames pick I expect that will be there pick.

One of those two guys should be there and both would be very good for the Flames.

Would agree with that. I'd say Nylander is ahead of Brown at this point.

If we weren't going to be so tight to the cap this year I'd agree with you (Wideman shouldn't be bought out but Smid should be considered if he's healthy). Since Engellund, Smid and Wideman are coming off the books after this season the penalty for Mayrays buyout would be relatively inconsequential.

However, that 2 million that we save this year could be very valuable for us (we have to sign Johnny, Money, a goalie, and some top 6 help).

I don't think there's a single top 6 Ufa I would sign this year.

Me either, but the hope is that we find someone to play in the top 6 (I'd love to grab JVR if the price was right) and we will need the cap space if we are to do that (we may even need the cap space just to fit Johnny, Money a starter and Colborne under the cap).

I wouldn't get too crazy with buyouts, but Raymond seems like a perfect candidate. He has zero value in the trade market and we are wasting more than 2 million of our cap burying him in the minors.

I personally like Bishop more. He's statistically the better goalie, and he's younger. Downside is that he's only got 1 year left on his contract, and will be looking for a big raise. Upside, only furthers the point that Tampa can't resign him & Stammer, Kucherov.
Honestly, the Flames could offer a 3rd for Bishop and Tampa would have no choice but to say yes or risk losing him for free

Yup. Bennett offers something no one else on our team does. He's the full package, and his ceiling is even higher than most people think in my opinion. I can't think of a single major flaw in his game which would prevent him from being elite in the future.

Moni isn't all that fast, all that physical, and questionable stick handling skill.
Johnny isn't fast either, has no physicality to his game, and can't drive to the net.

Bennett has the speed, the IQ, the shot, and stickhandling, isn't afraid to drive to the net/ battle for the puck, has the physicality, and has been decent defensively.
