Yup, as Bill said, why would he? Makes no sense. Buy him out or pay him full price for one more year, those are the only options.
- BiggE

No idea if he would...but him waiving his NMC to go to LHV this season actually gets him paid more than accepting a buyout (provided he is forced to retire)

Could waive NMC to be traded?

Not only options.

I thought you can protect 2 goalies if you drop 2 skaters from the list.

Another day, another mock Gautheir going to the flyers. I know they are just mocks, but id say 90% of mocks going back to several months have us taking him.
- arichardson22

It all depends on where he's picked. At #18, no thanks. However, if he is still on the board near the end of the 1st round, he may be worth making a move for.

See I didn't think what the Blackhawks did was bad.

Obviously they didn't think Tevo was a good fit for them. He had value so they attached it to bickell to move the whole contract. They got 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Laughton doesn't wow me and I am not exactly sure what his ceiling is. I am not against using him as the same bait to move someone like RJ or MacDonald.

Attaching him to Amac I'd do possibly. Rj is not a pressing situation

Only one goaltender can be protected.
- MJL

Was using Wikipedia's info on the 2000 expansion draft.

"26 of the 28 teams existing in the league at the time of the draft were each allowed to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards. The Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators had their entire rosters protected, as they were the two newest franchises in the league, only being in existence for one and two years respectively.

For teams protecting only one goaltender, there was no experience requirement for those left unprotected. For teams protecting two goaltenders, each goaltender left unprotected must have appeared in either 10 NHL games in the 1999–2000 season or 25 games in the 1998–99 season and 1999–2000 seasons combined. A goaltender had to be in net for at least 31 minutes in each game for the game to be counted against these totals."

Could they take him to stock their AHL team?

I don't know if it's been talked about. Is it possible the flyers are thinks about asking umberger to waive his nmc in order to play him in LHV this year? A little cap savings and he could be a good mentor and a good player at that level for the phantoms.
- Just5

That's an interesting option I hadn't seen, but from what Umberger has said (see this link: http://www.philly.com/phi...t-RJ-Umberger-on-Wed.html), he still thinks of himself as an NHL player.

Also, I think the Flyers save more money if he is bought out. They'd still be responsible for his salary in the AHL.

Depending on what he wants to do after hockey, it might not be a bad career option to go to the minors and fill a mentor role and transition into a coaching position of some sort when he decides he really can't do it anymore. On the other hand, he might be taking a spot away from a developing player, so who knows if this kind of role is even available?

Who do you see trading for him where it makes sense for the Flyers? Yes, it's a possibility in theory, but not realistically.

He's gonna get bought out.

Ah, of course. Because doing nothing and making money is worse than doing nothing and not making money.
- jmatchett383

Doing nothing and making money is humiliating. He is a professional athlete with pride. Obviously the best choice for him is doing nothing and not making money.

If you look around there will probably be better options than Stolarz available. The Bruins will have to protect Rask unless traded so Malcom Subban could be exposed.

There are just better options compared to Stolarz

Carolina just traded for Bickell and he is a worst skater than Umberger.

So an unprotected Stolarz could be a viable choice for them.

More viable than before we found out they needed to pick 3...but I still think there are better options from other teams (say like...Subban)

I agree. He'll be bought out.

What if Hextall shocked us all and traded MacDonald without retaining salary and just kept umberger for another season so not to have dead space next season

They don't really care about him. They just need his contract to get closer to the floor.

Go parity!!!!
