FWIW:

the Philadelphia Flyers …

Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post: The Philadelphia Flyers will be buying out R.J. Umberger.

“You don’t want to make rash decisions at the end of the season but that’s the way we were leaning,” Hextall said. “We need the space and I think it is probably better for R.J and for us.”

Umberger had one year left on his deal, but will now carry a $1.6 million cap hit next year, $1.5 million in 2017-18. The move will save them $3 million next year.

“There were two parts to the trade essentially,” Hextall explained. “The one was the space. I felt like two or three years from then it was going to be good for us, and I feel the same way now. Hartsy’s been a good player in Columbus and R.J. didn’t play as well as we hoped and certainly didn’t play as well as he hoped. There were some health issues there as well, so in terms of the deal right now I feel like it’s a benefit for us. We need space, we’ve got guys that are coming up like (Shayne Gostisbehere) and (Brayden) Schenn and (Radko) Gudas. We need space.”

If Vincent Lecavalier doesn’t retire by July 1st, the Flyers will be responsible for half of his $500,000 bonus.

Flyers GM Ron Hextall has made an offer to Ryan White and is awaiting a response.

Contract talks with RFA Radko Gudas are not going well.

They continue to work on a Brayden Schenn contract.

The bold part has me wondering what he could be wanting if true.

I'm guessing more money and years than Hexy wants to give him.

Are the ads here universal or direct? If I have to see Hillary's ugly mug everytime I come here...

I get that.

Just curious what he would really see his value at.

Best guess, Flyers are offering 3 years, aav between 2.25-2.75 million and Gudas' camps is asking for 4 years, aav upwards of 3.5 million?

Some agents also just like to play hardball right up to the last minute, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

I remember negotiations with Simon Gagne on an extension lasted well into the summer. I'm good either way towards Gudas. If he returns on a multi-year great, but if he has to be traded his value is going to be pretty good.

Over 3.5 would give me pause too.

I like Gudas but he is a #4 guy at best, who plays physical but took some bad penalties and was very close to a major suspension a few times.

Would love to have him back but at what cost?

There are some upgrades available, supposedly Shattenkirk and one of the young D in Anaheim and maybe Trouba. They'd cost a lot in a trade though.

I bet they'll eventually get something done with Gudas. We may not love the final deal.

I wouldn't want to pay 3.5 for him either. I don't think we need to target guys like Shattenkirk though. We have enough guys in the pipeline, I don't think we need to splurge on top-end talent.

If they can't get him, just trade him for a draft pick/prospect and be done with it.

My guess, fwiw, they get the following deal done:
3 year deal
16-17 2.5 million
17-18 2.75 million
18-19 3.25 million

aav: 2.833 million per

It's a bit more than I would like, but he's their only RH shot on D and, at least until Morin gets here, the only one who has any physical element to his game.

Good for you. I feel the same way about the Pens winning as I would the Rangers.

I would be OK with that.
I bet Hexy wants to keep it under 2.25 - 2.5 per season and they will work something out.

I really like Gudas and he seemed to improve as the season went on.

Gudas and MDZ could be a nice pair for the next few seasons for them.
