it should be interesting now that Matthew Barnaby is now an assistant coach with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers |

I won't lie and say I ever liked him as a player, but he has shown that he clearly loves the game and wants to be a part of it in any capacity, and that I can respect |

Bleacher Report just posted a new mock with us passing over Rubstov to draft Tufte. Interesting.
They also have Gauthier going at 14 before Jost and Bellows. I would be surprised if that happened. |

Not interested in Tufte. Don't deny he has some incredible tools, but the one time I saw him he just felt very invisible. That seems to be the report on him too -- raw, inconsistent. It doesn't ease my find that he hasn't performed at any level except HS. Disappointing international record, and he didn't exactly blow the USHL away, though people say he was better in his second stint. Could he be some wildcard home run? Sure. But meh.
Not that I give a hoot what Bleacher Report says about anything. |

I don't see the Flyers as big players in Free Agency. Just not the time for Hextall to spend big $$. he'll nibble a little. More likely to be a trade IMO. |

I like him a bit. But not at 18. I would consider packing the2nd rounders for him if he drops to the end of the 1st. |

I have some interest, but I worry about the level of competition. The tools are there, but they haven't really been tested for an extended time against top age group competition.
Tufte appeals more to me if they were to trade back or use the multiple 2nds/other assets to get back in at the tail end of the first. |

Without a trade there simply won't be a load of cash to do much in free agency. Got to re-sign Schenn & Gudas. Buying out Umberger gives some more room, as will Lecavalier's retirement(even if he waits until July 2nd). That said, they really can't go whole hog and add guys with lots of term due to the uncertainty of the cap and expansion.
Signing a veteran now to a 4 year deal, means he'll take a protected spot. That could leave a kid like Laughton as an expansion target. That's not ideal. |

The Flyers are just an unwilling team to venture outside the CHL with a top pick. If Bellows, Kunin, or Rubtsov are taken, who we all seem to like the most, that would even be a change of pace. Bellows at least tore up the USHL 2 years ago (with Marody oddly) as a 16 year old and now again as a 17 year old with the UNDP. Kunin was fantastic for a bad college team. Even Rubtsov has been on the international scene for awhile and the MHL is a heavily scouted league.
Now, if that's a stretch, going all the way to high school for a top pick? That would be a shocker of epic proportions for this team. |

Add Provy, Leier, dump White/VDV, slim chance of Konecny (don't count on that one), a depth signing or two for the bottom 6, say sayonara to Lappy (Mullen too if he can't completely remake the PP. It's embarrassingly old hat) and this team can be a whole hell of a lot better.
That right there is enough to win a round+ next year. My worry is Hexy/Hak get too attached to the players and coaches from last year. It would be a mistake. |

i dont know why exactly the PP fizzled out. its simplicity used to be the straw that stirred its drink. i was always so envious of how everyone had such a defined role. but basically it just seems like no one moves on it anymore and if the defense can just wall off giroux, that is that. there really are no shooting options. ghost will be special at the point. but i think jakes struggles played a part in the PP sucking as well.
but yeah. its not a large leap to realistically see the pieces falling to win a round in the playoffs next year. a more consistent and better regular season (which is more probable than not in my opinion) will prevent being matched up against the 1 seed again. thats a tough draw, especially considering the team spent so much just to squeak in. |

and god i really hope provy isnt some ekblad esque stud right out of the packaging. he really scares me.
the return of del zotto will also be big. i understand i get my rocks off to puck moving defenseman, but i think people forget how large his absence loomed at the end. |

PP struggled because 2/5 players on it do essentially nothing. Simmer screens or does his out move that teams close off second nature Schenn does the same thing, except his out move is just a one timer that barely works. So the PP uses 3 people essentially. And Jake/G play their off side, which makes catching and passing harder and more importantly slower.
It used to be very nice, but they've been running the same damn thing for forever and the book is out. They take forever playing pitch and catch. Just play aggressive on those 3 and the PP dies. Our PP has no fluidity or dynamic qualities. It's G to Ghost-1 timer. Jake cut move. The other stuff that never works. And that's essentially it. 3 on 4 PP is what it feels like. They don't use giant parts of the ice and almost half the unit. |

I like Okposo but we're not in the ideal position to be signing a free agent of that type right now.
I hope by some miracle AMac or Read is taken in the expansion draft so we get some more caption to play with in the near future. Building solely through FA is the wrong way to go but it's always a rush when you see your team land one of the big names. So long as they're not named Vinny that is.. |
