Bellows, Kunin, Rubtsov are probably my top 3. Dark horse is Vitali Abramov. That would probably be a trade back though. He could be one of the most skilled, fastest players in the draft. He is purely dynamic. Definition of risk/reward though. But the reward could be Kucherov level high. He's that skilled.

Of course, my number one favorite has been Clayton Keller. I see special special talents in him. I would have him right behind Matthews, Laine, PJ. I think he can be that good. If a trade up to say 10 or 12 can get him, I would jump like that.

Dahlen is a name I seem to keep going back to in the 2nd.

are there any Defensemen you would take over a forward if they fall to #18?

Hey, if you have a 20 goal scorer, and a player who just put up 26 goals, and 33 assists, on the 3rd line, you must have a pretty dam good team.
- MJL

I just hope he doesn't become the next Foligno. Big season, gets paid, produces 12 goals the following season.

Matthews?

Imagine the riots in Toronto.

They don't take Matthews and Stamkos spurns them to take less but play for a better team.

Stamkos is gotta get paid big time, then put up 12 goals the following season.

Happened once, lock to happen always.

Rather than trade back, I rather draft at 18 and consider trading for an additional later 1st to get another forward. Similar to a dark horse, risk/reward player as you said, id have interest in Benson.

EDIT: seems Benson's stock has dropped though so maybe not even needed lol

Could.

But I think it has a better chance of happening to a secondary player compared to a top end player.

Didn't he have exception status and was a possible 1st rounder?

Damn he dropped if the same guy I am thinking of.

I thought the same exact thing that I remember him being viewed sorta highly. But then I looked at a couple of mocks to get a better understanding and I saw a couple where he falls to the 3rd. I don't know enough to fully confirm though.

They have Sean Day going at 82? That's quite the plummet that kid pulled off. I feel bad for him but WTH, he's going to be an NHL draft pick.

Three years ago the Hockey News had him pegged as the first overall selection.

I like Kunin a lot. He was basically, at age 17, the only dangerous player on his team, and he still put up very good numbers.

It's kinda funny... In NHL16 he's been a top 10-15 pick every time I've gone through the 16' draft. But, out of every mock I have seen, 65 is the lowest he goes. Let's hope he does land in our laps at 82

"A Mobile two-way defenseman that boasts an elite level skill package. Has all of the raw abilities in place to become an elite defensman, but has yet to put it all together and prove that he can thrive in he driver's seat." -Curtis Joe from Elite Prospects. I also paraphrased the quote.

Edit: sounds like a richer Hagg. Must be a European thing

I'd definitely consider taking him with one of our seconds but positively in the third round.

A player who posts 26 goals, and 33 assists is not a secondary player. Those numbers are pretty close to top line nhl numbers.

No. I think 1 of those players should be available. If they are all taken? Well, that's just yankee doodle (frank)ing dandy. I'd trade back. I don't think Bean lasts to 18, and I'm not overly impressed by the others.

Keller is probably the one guy I would trade up for in the draft. He is easily the fourth most skilled player in the draft. Maybe trade for the tenth pick Colorado?
There is no way Dahlen is available at 48, but he is def a guy I would target with either trading up or down. He is crazy skilled, and had a dominant year in the second tier league in Sweden. Hockeyprospect.com has him at 26, and they're usually a good source.
Janne Koukannen, Dillon Dube and Noah Gregor are guys I'd target in the second round.

NHL Network had him at 17 last night in their first round preview.
