Have a question, if you pay MM what he wants, what do u pay Cizikas?? Bc he's a better player than MM - Ur Not Me
One is a RFA.. the other is a UFA. The RFA will get less. |

Right, and that $2.5M (this is purely based on my own feelings) is already calculating a 500k overpayment, because I don't think he's worth more than $2M. So that's where we're going to have to just agree to disagree.
Everyone's perceived value of any player will vary, so in this case I am figuring in a 500k overpayment, based on my own valuation of what Martin does for this team. Doesn't mean that what I say is the law by any stretch of the imagination, but that's where I'm at. And based on Staple's article today, it seems like the team has somewhat similar views. - eichiefs9
Well we are talking about Garth Snow here, who's contracts are always "good value". Except the guys who didnt wanna play here. |

Says who? Or is that the way RFA's go?
edit: If Strome would have had a season like he did last year, he would command about $4.5-5m per easily |

It's called leverage.. as An RFA you don't have a ton of it. As a UFA you have the ability to go with whoever pays you the most. |

I will continue to call it how i see it. Again, i find it ironic that the guy who rocks the name Vukota, is flagging my post. On a free website, you don't have the right to decide anything. - kindlyrick
Same here I'm still waiting to flag you again so you better stay sharp. The bans get longer and longer each time. Unfortunately its the only way to keep the clueless away. |

RFA's have less negotiating power. If the Islanders were smart, and they've done this in the past, they will lock Cizikas up for like 5 years at a good cap hit, so his contract provides big value on the back-end of the deal. It's what they did with Hamonic and Tavares. |

are you are actually arguing with me that being an RFA or UFA mean zero when it comes to contract negotiations? |

He's 25, made $1M this year. I'd give him 5 years at $2.5M without thinking twice. I think between $2.5 and $3M is all fair value for him. He may not want a long term deal like that. He may want a shorter deal in which he can bet on himself to raise his value.
But ideally, I'd be thrilled if we locked Casey up for 5 years at something around $2.75M. May need to be closer to or over $3M, but I'm honestly not sure. |

Every new contract signed makes me marvel at Snow getting Hamonic signed at that price. That is facking huge! |

Since Snow is showing little interest in negotiating new contracts with Okposo or Martin, I hope he will at least pick up draft picks by trading the rights to negotiate with them. |

Yeah I would say that Hamonic's contract is up there with one of the best price-to-performance ratios in the league.
Other guys I'd throw in that category, and I'm sure I'll accidentally miss some:
- Tavares, obviously
- Josi
- MaxPac
- Klingberg
- Brodie
- Gio
and I'm sure there's a bunch more. |

He'd have to do it ASAP. The negotiating window prior to the open of UFA on July 1st kinda makes it tougher to get anything from another team. But someone who covets either player may pony something up. |

You got issues bro....and not even because of the flagging or the banning line. The fact that you really believe its your decision to allow anyone to post on here is mind boggling. Take a step back and realize this isnt your website. Its for anyone and everyone to come and discuss. You're no better or worse than anyone posting on here. |

EVERY TEAM competing for the cup has toughness. I love how you wrote "we". Instead of replying shouldnt you be flagging my posts? How ironic that the guy who likes #12 is flagging people on here. - kindlyrick
Team toughness is great and hits are important as well, however in todays NHL team speed in mho is the defining element that separates the top teams from the others.
don't get me wrong again toughness is great and all however if you can't catch someone it's hard to hit them. Also speed leads to swarming type fore checking and of course make puck retrieval and procession greater. |

Snow is going to let another top producer on JT's line go again. Right or Wrong doesn't matter the last couple of years JT is going to watch his close buddies walk away yet again and not replace either of them without anything long term. This will be his biggest offseason to date. I can't fathom the idea that Snow would do that again. Could he? |

Are you talking about Okposo? I mean...what do you want them to do? I'm sure Tavares understands that this is a business and Snow's job isn't to keep his friends on the team just because they're friends.
I don't disagree that it's his biggest offseason, to date. He has a lot of work to do and it sure seems like there are going to be some massive changes. |

You're right. Too big an offseason for Snow to just let guys like Okposo and Martin walk and NOT bring in guys from the outside to replace them. JT, I'm sure, would LOVE to play with a friend or two. coughSTAMKOScough |

Of course not my point was JT thinks these guys are really good players and not just good friends and they all walk and he gets stuck playing with crap on his wings. You can't tell me that wouldn't get to you if you were JT? Jt doesn't think Okposo sucks like most of us do so I think that it does play a small part down the road if they don't bring in somebody ASAP to replace them. |

Well yeah, if his wingers next year are Lee and Strome he may not be so happy with that. But the offseason hasn't really even officially started yet, so I would like to see where we are in mid-July before deciding how I feel about things.
Replacing one friend, in Okposo, with another, in Stamkos, would probably go a long way.
Obviously that's a major long shot, but the more time goes by the more I start to believe that signing Stamkos may be a bit more realistic than a lot of people think. There are a lot of moving parts that need to fall into place, but if they do...I would rank us as one of the better contenders for his services. /ducks |

It's amazing Martin, Nielsen & Okposo only took up 6.55 million in cap space last year. That's a lot of production for the cost. It's a shame Snow didn't capatalize more on some of these really good contracts that are now up |
