Totally agree on MM. 2.0 is really what I would want but I go to 2.5 as well and then tap out.
I'm really surprised Franz isn't signed yet |

Maybe they are waiting to make a run at Stamkos first, if they land him and he's a center we have Nelson and cizikas we don't need Frans and go after a winger |

That would be letting him go to UFA though. I would think that, if they want him back, the prudent move would be to sign him before he's getting big, fat offers from other teams. |

Do you think being this close to free agency he won't at least listen to what's out there? I'm sure he wants to stay but why would he take a discount now same with Stamkos in tampa. Maybe they want more than garth is willing to give. I'd like to see him resigned but at this point in time he's more than likely to test the market. I understand if they want him back it would be better to resign him now but what other reason is there? If he wants a ton and we can sign a better player I think you go for it, the new owners want to make a splash |

Yeah, all I was really saying was that they either need to re-sign him or not. If they let him go to UFA there is no chance that he ends up back here.
As for listening to what's out there, nobody can contact him before negotiating window opens. I'm sure he could still gauge the market pretty accurately, but until that window opens...he doesn't truly know what kind of offers he's going to get.
Isles may be smart to sign him on the "cheap". Key is not getting killed on term. He's probably going to double his deal, but he may get even more on the open market.
Frans is a really good, versatile player. He can play wing or center, scoring line or checking line. I'd like him to stick around and I don't think signing him precludes them from signing Stamkos. This is, of course, assuming they trade Halak and get rid of one or two of 12/86/84 |

Yea I'd prefer the isles resign him over Martin or okposo as he's the most versatile and they very well may however nothing is ever leaked from snow in regards to contracts I mean it's like if our government knows about aliens they aren't saying it

I think it will take a little more, but truth be told, I don't see him getting more than $2.5M per from any other team. I think MM's value is maximized on the Isles. He won't have the same impact going to another team. And other teams have the same issues as the Isles: they also can't over pay a fourth line guy for the same reasons as the Isles can't overpay MM. At the end of the day, I think MM remains an Islander on a four year, $9M-$10M deal. |

Sure they will make a play for Stamkos but odds are low of signing him.
Halak may be tradeable, but at 4.5M per, he is not acquirable as a backup.

I would bet any amount of money that the "negotiating window" is non existent. Im sure teams contact players to gauge what they're looking for way before that negotiating window goes into effect.

I think for a guy who brings toughness, and hits everything in sight, as a UFA, a team who recognizes the need for that type player is going to overpay for MM. If he's not been extended by the isles at this point, he's going to test the waters of free agency as he should. When a team that is contending for the stanley cup wants a specific player, they pay for it. Like anything else.....someones value is what someone else is willing to pay. I think MM gets 3 shmill a year for 4-5 years. |

I distinctly remember going through this exact same debate last year, I can't go down that road again. Once again, we're going to agree to disagree on this one. |

Then he will be gone. No way the Isles can pay him that, especially with the other guys like Zeeker, Clutter and eventually JT needing to be extended shortly, as well as signing players for the top nine this summer. |

isles need to put best team on ice and not worry about sht down the road. If they let MM walk I will be very annoyed. Sign him... trade Bailey. |

How do you "not worry" about things down the road? If Tavares walks because we can't afford to pay him what he demands due to Snow handing out asinine contracts all over the place...you, and everyone else, will be in here calling for his head on a silver platter.
Everything is done with "down the road" in mind. |

Teams will acquire him to start bc of his experience & short term contract left, regardless of his recent injury issues bc Halak always had injury issues ..... |

His price is going to be super low, which is fine. I'll take the meager return considering A) his $4.5M comes off the books with no caveats and B) we gave up nothing other than a 4th round pick to get him.
I see no reason he can't fetch a 3rd round pick from a team looking for a goaltender. |

Everything garth does is with an eye down the road that's why he has the space to maneuver |
