Won't he want a ridiculous amount of money, though? - Hank3Henshaw
Ridiculous, no. I don't think so. He will definitely be making less than he did this year. |

Gudbranson is not an NHL player. So yeah, you lose. McCann can never play a game with the Cats and you lost. - Blackstrom2
are you retarded ?
Their was talk about him being the next captain...he hit hard and play great D..not a top pairing guy because of the lack of offense, but no problem playing him on a second pairing with an offensive guy ! |

Yeah this isn't correct. The only people calling for captaincy were some fans. He did hit hard. Great D? No. Decent D? Sure. He was injured last season during a fight and never really was the same after. |

Good trade by the kitties. Gudbranson was a bust. Can't believe your blogger didn't start off post by saying "Gudbranson trade proof that Panthers fans exist" |

He wasn't a bust at all. He just is what he is; a hard hitting stay at home D. Pros and cons like most, but he sort of hit his ceiling at 24 and with Petrovic out playing him for the most part last year this was a necessary move. Love the kid but it was a necessary move. |

That was because outside of tanev, you had a rookie in hutton learning the nhl, sbisa turning the puck over, edler having a miserable season and almost nothing else. It had everything to do with the fact that the canucks d was frankly pretty terrible.
I think trading away a 2nd and a 4th along with a 19 y/o first rounder playing his first season of pro hockey for a guy that gives you nothing offensively and a 4-5 at best defensively isn’t necessarily a smart thing to do for a rebuilding team. You’re also going to have to pay him shortly…
I don’t see that florida really needed mccann, but with the picks involved I’d give the win to the panthers. Straight up without the picks it would have been closer. - Isles_since_6
McCaan was trying to sleep with Demkos girlfriend and Demko is a better prospect then McCaan. |

So he's acquired:
Sutter, Granlund, Gudbranson, Dorsett , Larsen, Etem, Baertschi, Prust, Sbisa, Pedan, Vey, 2nd 2nd, 3rd, 5th round picks for
given up:
Kesler, Shinkaruk, Garrison, Costello, Clendening, Jensen, Malet, kassian (I understand), Bieksa, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, and 6th
That seems terrible! draft pick mismanagement
EDIT: I think im missing 1 or 2 more smaller trades - DeflatedPucks
Fixed as both Mccaan and Bonino came from the kesler trade. Unless you're going to put Bonino on both sides. Doesn't look so bad anymore... |

It's funny how black and white people are making this trade.. This trade could easily work out for both teams. Yeah the Canucks traded away potential but they also got back the best player in the trade. And more often then not when you get the best player in a deal you win the trade.. Mccann will be a solid player I don't doubt it, I'd say 2nd line. But moving him to the wing might change things who knows..Canucks don't make this trade without having the 5th pick this year to replace him, is pretty simple.. While the Canucks haters and analytics guys wanna act like this trade is so clear cut and done, let's be real here it'll be probably 3-5 years before we have any idea who wins this trade. And in the meantime Vancouver gets a 24yr old 2nd pair Dman |

Good post until you said Gudbranson is a 2nd pair guy. He really isn't. Also, I'm thinking McCann will play center and Nick Bjugstad will move to wing where I think he will ultimately be a better NHL player. You are right about you guys having the #5 pick; without it this trade doesn't happen. |

Radulov or McCann? - harveykline
Florida is no longer pursuing Radulov. |

A few notable points.....
After next year Gud will be a UFA and the Canucks have no real control over this player.
That being said, nobody can judge his trade right now. There are a dozen dmen in the nhl that are considered stars (not superstars) that came not the nhl in their age 23 or 24 season. Next year is Gud's age 24 season.
The next thing I will say is that now that Gud is gone, Brian Campbell will no longer be as good a fit in FLA. A guy like BC fits much better when a player like Gud is on the roster.
Next, McCann will not be an NHL centre. He plays like a winger and until he is cast as a winger he will never be successful. So, the Canucks did not even trade away a C I in my opinion. McCann was a solid pick at 24 but he has a long way to go before becoming a top 9 forward on a good team.
Giving up the picks hurts, but if they sign Gud to a 6 year deal at ~$4.25-4.45 they will be in good shape and he will be. There when the team starts to come around.
Hutton and Tanev are both going to be very solid for years to come. They need to dump Edler somehow and draft a dman or two and they will be ok long term.
Just my thoughts |

Usually the Canucks waste their pick on some washout college kid when they're picking in the mid 20's. I guess they were betting with house money once it became apparent McCann was going to play in the NHL.
Those picks though..

LOL, I approve this post, mainly because the last canuck 2nd round pick to play in the NHL was trip over the blueline drinking game hero Mason Raymond......
those picks indeed |

Well whether he is or not, he will be on this team with Hutton is what I was getting at. And until Mccann figures it out he will be a winger... 36% in the dot, was way too weak |

Then retracted.... so not reported at all...... you know kinda like if I said "hey, want ten dollars" and you say "yes, please" to which I say nope, just (frank)ing with you".
doesn't mean that I actually gave or really offered you ten dollars and for you to tell people that I did.... well that's just silly. |
