Oh yes I'm the troll.

Just like McCann and a 3rd rounder get you the 4th overall pick...

This place needs a little bit more outside influence if you guys have gone off the rails so far to believe that is in any sense an intelligent remark.

It's like you guys just shut down outside thoughts in this thread so much because you'd prefer to dwell in a delusional state of extreme bias and homerism that makes everyone comfortable with the outlook of the Nucks. Like a little safe space to shield you all from reality and critical thinking.

That's why I brought up JJ's thread, because it is a cesspool of this same poop.

there's a couple of posters who come to mind...

McCann and the 5th OA for the 3rd OA?

Flames fans were saying Backlund and 6OA for 3OA yesterday.

- RonPielep

Cool you should make the deal with Calgary, personally I'm not interested from a canucks point of view.

How about Sbisa or Weber and the 5th OA for 3rd OA?

I dont want to be "that guy", but the importance of faceoffs is not as big as youd think. Just a quick google search of "effect of faceoffs in hockey" and there are numerous pieces that say they have minimal impact on the outcome of games.

The strongest support I could find for the importance of faceoffs was a study from some university kids which looked at the 2010-2011 season and said a few interesting things, "This means that a player must win about 76 more faceoffs than they lose in order to obtain a goal differential for his team. A team that moves from winning 50% of their faceoffs to winning 60% of them gains just over 12 goals per season which is equivalent to two additional wins"
"For a player that wins 60% of their 1200 faceoffs, taking 20% more faceoffs outside the neutral zone can add an additional 3 goals or one win per season. "

Just looking at the difference between last and first, the result might end up with one extra win at the end of the year between Vancouver and Arizona (who finished 1st in league faceoffs last year)

- WhiteLie

in 10-11 Van was number 1 in faceoffs.

I understand it's not the end all be all to win the most face-offs but just not to be dead last. Even middle of the pack. Just a few more face-offs win and maybe the team goes from losing one goal games and winning them instead.

So what are the consequences to DET if Datsyuk signs in Russia and does not return.

I have heard it is a 1 year 7.5mil cap hit unless he announces retirement

and Washington was 19th this year at 49.6%, Tampa was 20th, Chicago was 22nd and Nashville 26th. Sure St.Louis and ANA were in the top 5, but the range is too wide to really hold significance IMO.

A more alarming stat was Canucks were 28th in Shots per game, and and 29th in Shots against per game. I think if the Canucks surrender under 30 shots per game (so reduce it by 2.5 shots per game over 82 games) and given the save percentages of Markstrom and Miller at .915, they would reduce the goals against on the season by approximately 18 goals. Probably quite a few more wins right there

One way you could keep the other team from getting shots and getting shots for yourself is winning a face-off. It all goes hand in hand.

Tanev for Yakupov straight up
McCann, plus Hansen for Drouin

- kaptaan

Seriously? I know we need more offense but trading our best Dman sounds asinine to me. Especially for an underachieving Russian who on most night looks like he doesnt give two shyts.

Arizona coming first in Faceoff percentage and 6th highest in shots against and Nashville coming in 26th for faceoffs and 30th in shots against would probably disagree with you. 8 teams in the top half of the league in faceoff percentage are in the bottom half of shots against.

I wont say its irrelevant because youre right, winning a few faceoffs might save some shots here or there if its a defensive faceoff but its really an overvalued stat

Games are so close. I don't think any stat is overvalued unless your putting extra emphasis on it. I wasn't saying that if Van won more face-offs they would win the cup. I think you need bit of everything, decent PP and PK. Teams that are the best at one thing aren't always that great at other things. It's more about winning the key face-offs. Usually face-offs is for the more experienced players. A journey man 4th line center is something i've desired since Manny left.

Anyone remember if any of the final 4 made moves at the TDL? Curious to know if it had an impact on any of the remaining teams but are too lazy to look it up.
I'll go smoke a jazz cigarette and see what one of you lads comes up with.
Thanks.

Of course, I was going off of team stats which is a collection of all faceoffs, but I think as long as you have one guy who does them well, thats what matters. Thats why I was commenting on yours about the Canucks finishing last as a team. Im not worried about McCann's faceoff ability, I am sure he will become average as soon as he bulks up. Horvat and Sutter are sufficient enough to cover the role of winning those important draws on the left and right sides IMO

I'm a bit more excited this year about the impact that Sutter could have. Bo's continued progress.
