Too bad the Canucks don't have him guaranteed in the system.

Or that it never hurts to have a lot of talented players who can play center

Or that you could have saved yourself these assets and signed Eric Gryba in UFA for basically the same level of performance

- Lindenis#1

No guarantees you can sign him.

The Canucks roster is more balanced today then it was yesterday.

See above, it just doesn't make sense to me considering the current state of the team. They don't have enough assets to start trading picks and prospects. They're not in a position to compete right now, that's what frustrates me.

He is (frank)ing 24! He should have another good 8 plus years in the league. You are proposing an Oilers 10 year rebuild?

You think Mcann is better than Horvat I suspect there isn't a GM in the league that doesn't think Horvat is/ will be a top 6. But keep on keeping on
- CanuckDon

Currently no, but he's more offensively talented for sure. Both are really good players obviously, it's just that Bo is heavier with an NHL ready body.

The analytics guys will tell you Gudbranson is not a top four guy, currently, yes he led Florida in ice-time these playoffs but he didn't have a great playoffs, according to what I've read.

I watched the Islanders series and he really didn't stand out.

His numbers, career high 13 points, and analytics say he's only a slight upgrade on players they could have acquired for nothing.

Here's the thing though, the Canucks aren't deep at center, quality top six centers. At the NHL or prospect level they have ONE top six NHL center. They're a rebuilding team so they trade away their one and only talented POTENTIAL top six center...WTF.

The team is rebuilding and they now have two picks in the first four rounds.

Bennng is trading away the future to try and compete now and the Canucks have TWO top six players on their team, and they're 36 years old...again...WTF is wrong with him?

If Bennng doesn't SIGNIFICANTLY improve the top six then the next two years is wasted trying to compete in the West with zero hope of winning a Cup.

Pinning hopes on potential when getting a RHD now is a win & a need filled.

He wasn't expendable to me because you have Henrik and Horvat as top six centers, and Henrik is going to retire shortly, so that leaves ONE guy to play center.

Grandlund is garbage, Sutter is a third liner, Dubois is 18 years old and might not be available at 5th.

Foresight! You need centers to win in this league.

Why exactly do you think Mcann is a center? Even Florida has already indicated he will play wing

Gudbranson is old at 24?
- LordHumungous

I think you misunderstood the context of the word "older".

Older as in trading a younger guy for someone older than said younger guy.

Everyone praises Benning for being a great scout and they say that his strength is at the draft table. Why does everybody doubt his talent evaluation at the NHL level?

The think I notice about Benning is that if he sees a player he likes he does what he can to go and get them. Even if he has to overpay a little. I like that alot better then the previous 2 GM's that refused to make trades in the fear that they wouldn't get absolute full value for the asset, which in the long run hurt the team.

- fiveandagame

Because he gave Sbisa stupid contract for being good in scrums and he called Sutter a foundational piece...need I go on?

Gudbranson is 24.

If you're going to troll, get your facts straight.

Is Bernier still the next Carey Price? God I love you Leaf scouts.

I don't, he's struggled too much when put there. But at least he has potential. I'm sorry to be Debbie-downer here, but for a team that should be rebuilding through the draft, considering they have zero chance of competing next year, I'm pissed that Benning's continually pissing away draft picks and a good talented young player like McCann for an upgrade that may not be around in three or four years when they MIGHT be good again.
- LeftCoaster

I think they are banking on Dubois who makes McCann expendable. McCann is probably too weak and too soft for the type of team JB is building. Dubois is bigger, more physical and definitely has had a better junior career with an advantage in upside.

I say this often. The Oilers model stinks. It dumb to think that you have to build every piece from the draft and acquiring 24 year old players with a entire prime ahead of them is contradictory.. You know, 10 years down the road when you realize doing the entire job through the draft didnt make you more than a middling team, you can always fire the GM and take another 10 year run at it... long as you keep doing it "right" over the decades... no one will care that you are the new Oilers.

I'm proposing they build through the draft for another three years on top of the two good drafts they've already had.

I'm done defending a great trade to the hysterics crowd

I will leave with this:

Gundbranson-pedan-tree-sbisa

That's got to be the largest and meanest D in the league

Hopefully Edler can stay healthy and Hutton can grow offensively. Larson can swap in for Pedan when we need extra offense!

A lot of people are saying Mccann is a cancer in the locker room. Terrible attitude, entitled, etc. Was never in the Canucks plans. Should be out of the NHL within 3 years.

I know I'm super late to the party and didn't feel like going through all 39 pages of comments lol... I really Like this trade, I don't see McCann fitting in the top 6 anytime soon and doesn't have the size for a bottom 6 role. I feel Gudbranson improves the D now and for the near future until younger guys like Tryamkin, Stetcher and Pedan can find their game at the NHL level. I heard the there is a major drop off in talent after the first half of the 1st round so I can live with the 2nd going as well. Overall I really like this trade

I think a player like Sutter is a fundamental piece when you are loading your team with young players. His defensive game will educate and benefit the young players. Positive habit building. I see the logic behind saying that.

I'm not proposing an Oilers rebuild, I've never said do that. I like Gudbranson, I just don't think the team is stacked enough with prospects or picks to be trading for immediate help when they still have so many holes to fill.

The defence will be better, no question, for a team that finished with the worst goal differential in the league they need significant improvement back there.

Now how do they fix the fact they have one top six winger in Daniel? I'm all for fixing holes when you're dealing from a position of strength, which takes patience to build, but Bennng never does that.
