We are deep enough at center now where obviously MNGT thinks Granlund is a better option for 4LC than McCann. It is what it is. Top 4 Dmen cost a lot and the price was steep but it fills a massive need for us...it was a good move.

Thank you. The outrage over this trade for a solid right handed dman for an unproven child is ridiculous.

We NEED Dmen. The second rounder hurts. But atleast we know what were getting going forward. They havent got a clue.

And Dmen take longer to form their game. This dude is young and is most likely still improving at 24.

What is everyone bytching about?

Yeah I dont hate the trade, the price for Top 4 under 25 is always going to be very high. I do like that JB is filling in the age gap from previously poor draft years. I just liked McCann and the draft scouting report he came with and was hoping to see how he panned out for the Canucks. Hopefully Gudbranson helps solidify things on the back end for the next 6-8 years, and Dubois/Tkachuk do well to help the loss of McCann
- WhiteLie

That's exactly it. Dubois and Tkachuk are much better prospects than Mcann so he was expendable. I'm grateful we can now keep our pic

Yeah, A right handed big young Dman is nothing to complain about. Mccan hasnt prven anything at this level. I dont mind the trade at all.

Im more upset about the 2nd round pick, but Im sure I'll survive.

- vancity787

Why, because the 19 year old only scored 9 goals and looked out of place at times?

Geez man, he's only going to get better.

And you know this as a fact? Depends who's coaching him and other variables. And by your logic all of our players in the system are going to get better.

It doesnt work that way. We got a big, Right handed proven nhl Dman for someone who hasnt proven shyt.

But like a typical Canucks fan you bytch, bytch, bytch away.

Here's the thing though, the Canucks aren't deep at center, quality top six centers. At the NHL or prospect level they have ONE top six NHL center. They're a rebuilding team so they trade away their one and only talented potential top six center...WTF.

The team is rebuilding and they now have two picks in the first four rounds.

Bennng is trading away the future to try and compete now and the Canucks have TWO top six players on their team, and they're 36 years old...again...WTF is wrong with him?

If Bennng doesn't SIGNIFICANTLY improve the top six then the next two years is wasted trying to compete in the West with zero hope of winning a Cup.

Meh, i'm not bothered as much as some by the trade.

It's pretty asinine to suggest a 2nd round pick is more valuable than a 19 year old prospect with 50 NHL games under his belt. Or does that 2nd rounder not need developing and coaching?

So with the 2nd we gave up, albeit a high one so the graph may so somewhat skewed.

- VanHockeyGuy

Cam you super impose the number of Canuck draft picks who make it to the NHL? It would be much clearer with the dramaticly lower percentage that truly represents our actual picks who turn out.

I avoided the boards like a pleasure yesterday and boy am I glad I did.

Vantel I knew that you were actually Jim Benning, good call

So now that we have both EG and BS, who do we target next? You where very high on lucic for a long time, if you still are then I'd Hazzard to guess that we will sign him.

Just going out on a limb here but does anyone else think that is a strange coincidence that both mccaan and Stamkos are centers? And JB just freed up a roster spot for a top line center
Good thing he traded him before he signed SS or else his value would have devastatingly decreased.

Interestingly enough, with JB's moves the Canucks now have:

11th overall from 2007 (Sutter)
19th overall from 2008 (Sbisa)
3rd overall from 2010 (Gudbranson)
29th overall from 2010 (Etem)
13th overall from 2011 (Sven)
45th overall from 2011 (Granlund)

Given how poorly the team has drafted from 2007-2011, I am really happy with his moves. Yes those arent all superstars, but they are NHL players and if they were home grown, I think we would be very happy with these guys as the result. JB has got the team younger and done well with his own drafts so far

Seems to be market price, as Lefty frequently says, You gotta give to get. As soon as I heard picks were involved I knew the chicken little crowd would be freaking out. Always good comedy, just waiting for Phucker to make a guest appearance.

The deal isn't horrible.
However if I'm a Canucks fan, I'm looking at an aging twins and a window that's closed.

I think I'd rather have a 19 year old who's already proven to be NHL caliber and what is essentially a late first, than a mid twenties number 4 D-man.

But hey, at least he got the 5th this time. Can definitely see more trades coming since ol' Jimbo doesnt like having those 5th rounders
