You keep saying Tanev for Yak. Are you serious ? That's is a horrible trade for Van
- CanuckDon

Tanev is soft and we need solid d men. trade when his value is high and get the former 1OA (who will come alive like Baertschi has in a new environment) and get their 3rd rd pick where you select a dman or package it off with Hansen to get 1st rounder.

I was really hoping to get Barrie, but toughness was needed in Van, worth the cost
- phyllee

Yeah, A right handed big young Dman is nothing to complain about. Mccan hasnt prven anything at this level. I dont mind the trade at all.

Im more upset about the 2nd round pick, but Im sure I'll survive.

I totally get what you're saying. I don't like the overpayments either but the flip side is he is getting the players he targeted. Guddy was the imo the mvp for the panthers in the playoffs. When he got hurt and left the ice the the analyst douches were all over it saying he was their best player. I don't like the 2nd but whatever he got us a solid young defence man. I think there is more to come.
- thundachunk

Not wild about the trade from a Canucks perspective, but because D-men take so long to develop it is possible Benning just got a Dman right before he hits his prime.

It *could* be a really good move, just really risky also.

After the top 15 this draft goes south really quick. I have heard numerous insiders saying that scouts don't think their is any true top NHL D in this draft. There are no Ekblads or Jones. After the top 15 it's a crapshoot of mediocre players.

Stay strong man. It's a jungle out there. Just wondering though if there might be other reasons why you're not getting invited to lunch a lot. Do you tend to talk about pedophelia while eating?

hard to do when you trade away all your draft picks for players that other teams don't want.
- manvanfan

Other teams don't want Gundbranson? You have no credibility do you

Uh... gudbranson was a 3rd pairing d they tried to keep away from tavares in that series. He wasn't good.
- Isles_since_6

That's funny because he led Florida's defense in atoi in the playoffs.

Its ballzy for sure. I liked how well he did and the amount of minutes he got in the 1st round.

Name ONE move the Leafs made last season or off-season that was not entirely justifiable.

Then, when you fail at that, consider that they finished with more points this past season than the one before.

Then, when you still don't get it, remember that they went out got the best available coach they could.

Then, finally, come back and talk to me about deliberate tank jobs.

Oh, and before you get clever and bring up trading Kessel or Phaneuf, remember point 2 above, AND remember how those two were regularly criticized for both their play and their contracts before we traded them.

- Aetherial

if you are offended that i called their 'performance' last season a tank job, then take it up with this guy and others like him in your own media market...

http://news.nationalpost....but-how-long-will-it-last

oh and here's a move that didn't make sense...

"The Leafs have paid 38-year-old defenceman Stephane Robidas his $3-million salary all season, kept him on injured reserve, and no one really knows what’s wrong with him. Bum knee, apparently, but he went on IR at training camp and hasn’t been heard from since. It’s a pretty good deal, really."

Last year our second and third pair RHD was Weber and Bartowski for most of the year and throw in Biega. Anyone who does not see this as an upgrade, does not know hockey.

Brian burke was talking about it. Some teams will still take advantage of the picks though.

It's an upgrade on D sure.
Just not sure a team with an aging core up front should be giving up on young forwards like McCann and Shinkaruk (previously)

Brian Burke probably thinks all the players are too soft for his liking...no dion phaneuf or francois beauchemin type

Lefty might not like it but at least he admits its a huge upgrade. A lot was give up. Look at what is left with Fla's D. Campbell is a free agent. Willie is done. That leaves Kulikov, Ekblad, Kindl and Petrovic. What is their top 2 now?

Hardly a word from TSN and their insiders on Twitter. If it were the Leaf's there would have been a weeks worth of 24 hour programming. What a bunch of tools.
- VanHockeyGuy

So true. TSN and SN are more than a joke now. If this was a Laffs deal we would have been in the 24th hour of the Leafs 2026 preview where the rebuild in TO will be approaching 60 years...

Theres a sportsnet article on Benning. very interesting.

Since 2006, only 3 first rounders selected by the canucks (gaunce, Virtanen, horvat) are still with the team/depth chart...

EDIT: Correction 4, Benning hasn't officially traded 2015 pick Boeser yet...

I am not taking it up with them. I am taking it up with you. YOU made the comment. I want you to back up your own words.

So far all you have is somehow the Leafs did something dodgy by keeping Robidas on IR. Is that supposed to be your arguement for the tank job?

it's already been over 60 years since their mythical cup win... (is anyone even alive from back then that could have possibly seen it in their teens or twenties?)

Not to sound snarky, but he's not a top four on a decent team. I think the canucks are still stuck with an owner pushing to try and make the playoffs rather than have some patience and rebuild. I know how bad an owner and GM can get, and this isn't at that level but I think this move is a mistake.
- Isles_since_6

LOL...Gudbranson wasn't top 4 logging 26min/game at times on a FLA team that dominated their division? Don't deflect how crappy the Isles were in the PO's this year over here dude...
