Ya except for maybe 100 games or so of NHL experience and proven ability to defend
- neem55

Can't really argue with the first part, but I disagree on the latter with what I've seen of him. Sure he's hard in corners and aggressive, but his shot suppression and contribution is lackluster and his puck-moving ability is average at absolute best. Maybe a switch to the West will help his cause (grindier game and whatnot) and he could prove me and many others wrong with a hard-working summer, but I'm just saying that there's cause for a fair deal of skepticism. At least (most of) you aren't banking on him being a top pairing guy.

yes a top 4 d who is just coming into his own for a 5goal prospect and some picks that may never pan out....we dealt from strength for our area of weakness much better than a first for a Ballard type player
- onesmallleap

You can paint it that way, too, but McCann is a legit blue-chip prospect who performed commendably as a 19yr old in the NHL. Yeah, he's still very much a prospect, but he's a sort of higher-end offensive talent severely lacking in both Vancouver's team and farm system.

i guess you can always find the negative if you look , but to me this is alot like the jovo trade , a hard nosed young d-man we can build around
- onesmallleap

I don't know exactly how you mean that. To me, building around refers to core pieces that are invaluable to a team (Toews, Kane, and Keith for example). What are you expecting out of him?

I ain't reading through all the posts, so apologies if this has been covered.
I like the move.
We all knew D was the most glaring need. We get a big young rightie.
It is tough giving up JM and a 2nd.

There has got to be more moves coming though. As he is clearly not the puck moving pp Qb we need and seems similar in skillset to tanev, Sbisa, hamhuis; etc.

I like the top 4 much more now.

Elder tanev
Hutton guds
Tryamkin Sbisa
Larsen pedan
Biega

Wouldn't mind seeing Sbisa moved with Hansen for prospect and pick (2nd)

Overall.

Meh. I thought he played well last year.
Can hit. Can move the puck and can skate.
He's a good to v good 5-6.
I'd just rather see Larsen and/or Pedan in the 6-7 spot

But who's gonna take that contract on? 3mil for a guy that's (arguably) a 5-6 Dman. A bad team isn't going to give up good picks for him (even with Hansen) and a good team wouldn't want that much tied up in a depth Dman. Retaining half salary might help, but still, this is a bottom pairing Dman at best. Those usually don't get much (Gryba brought a 4th and sh!t prospect), but I guess there's always the possibility of one GM seeing him good enough to justify it.

This moves Sbisa out of the top 4.

This guy is a the new Juice. This guy is a guy we can build around.

Good Trade.

Good trade

Obviously were picking Dubois to replace mccann and probably signing a winger. With sutter horvat Dubois GranLund and hank why on earth wouldn't we trade from a position of potential strength to make our weakest position better with a huge strong 24 year old. I don't get why people are upset. Good deal. You cam trade Raymond foreveryone

The trade makes sense to me although I think you may have overpaid a little. It all but confirms that you will be selecting Dubois in the draft, who I think can be a huge star in our league! Dubois's hockey IQ is through the roof.

Nucks seem to be good with prospects on the wing with Virtanen, Boesser, Gaunce and once Dubois gets drafted that will move Granlund to the wing where he belongs IMO.

You can look forward to a Center group of Dubois, Horvat and Sutter for years to come and there's nothing wrong with that!

A saner outlook for sureπŸ‘πŸ»
Too much can be made about potential from picks but there is only 18 skaters & 2 goalies on a roster. Ppl sweat too much over a trade without looking into the design.

I like this trade. 24 year old dman who's played 5 seasons/309 NHL games and has 346 PIMS.

That ain't easy to find. He paid too much but we have to expect that from JB & Co. just going to have to live with it as long as JB is our GM.

- bloatedmosquito

Will you like it at 5mil per, because after next season that's what he wants. I like the deal for us.

What he wants & what he gets r differnt stories.
Up to him to play well to get paid well.
Its called incentive.
We don't face cap issues.
The deal for you is simple...
Salary cap room & a prospect & picks. No guarantees but makes sense also.

Well my take on trading down is done for.
Adding EG means we will see prolly 1-2 UFA F's signed.
5OA BPA looks a certainty. Dubois or Tkachuk look like our future.
I see JB mining the draft in later rounds for a sleeper.

Seriously? I know we need more offense but trading our best Dman sounds asinine to me. Especially for an underachieving Russian who on most night looks like he doesnt give two shyts.
- vancity787

(instead of trading McCann we'd need to move our first (5OA) and a 2nd for Drouin, Tanev straight up for Yak)

Then with Yak and Drouin we have lines of

Sedin Sedin Sutter
Drouin Bo Yak
Baertschi Vey Hansen
Gaunce Granlund Etem

Dorsett

Edler Gudbranson
Hutton Hamhuis/ ufa
Tryamkin Bartkowski

Sbisa

Kassian, Clendening, Jensen... Gimme a break. A bunch of AHLers, a couple B level prospects and a handful of draft picks which have a 0.5% chance of becoming NHLers for a potential top line centre in Sutter, a top pairing d-man and solid NHL depth players. All while being able to draft some great prospects including a franchise goalie. Future is bright out here on the west coast in the best city in the world.
- hankthetank

I beg to differ...
