I get it. The D is better now for sure. To me this shows burrows and higgins will be bought out. Hopefully Sbisa can moved but it is very unlikely.

Also, I think they will now be signing UFAs.

I wanted the full rebuild. I see this as a ownership mistake.

I laugh at the people who want the "Oilers Model".

Benning traded for a 24 year old top 4 right D man.... not a rental.

I think he's good at the defensive side of things, he's tough, he's physical, but until he finds some offence he's not worth a first and second round pick. That's my issue.
- LeftCoaster

He didnt trade a 1st round pick. He traded JM. If you count that as a 1st round pick then it's only fair to say we got a 3rd over all in return.

I still expect one more big trade still this summer. It will be with a team cap stretched.

Anyone know if EG even knows he has been traded here yet? I was reading on Twitter that he was on vacation and not available for comment

So does the Kesler deal look like this now?

Kesler + three 2nds + 4th for Gudbranson, Sutter, Sbisa + two 3rds + 5th

Gudbranson 3rd oa
Sutter 11th oa
Sbisa 19th oa

Kesler 23rd oa
McCann 24th oa

It's getting old. i have no problem with McCann for Gudbanson, but the 33rd is a hell of a sweetner.

Not much depth in this draft. Once you get past 25 it gets weak damn fast

Good read from Bob. I always liked the Hip.

Sad news indeed.

Benning's given up a few really offensively talented players for guys who provide zero to nothing for offence. He's hitched his ride to Henrik, Sutter and Horvat down the middle, which I'd say is a mistake...Sutter is not a number two center. He's a good player, but as a center he doesn't make his linemates better, he's good on the PK but I'd say Horvat is already more offensively talented than him.

I guess I'll wait until summers over before I start moaning...I'm still disappointed in his continual overpayment for players though.

Did you know the Oilers paid a 1st and a 2nd for Griffin fukcing Reinhart last season pay to play my firend

The funny thing is I said last year a proposal of Hansen MCCann and a second and got roasted by quite a few saying it was not enough. Now it's too much.

Finally at the end of page 27, and I'm not surprised by the polar opposite views of another Benning trade.

Extremes on both sides, with a few objective thoughts down the middle, pretty much status quo in canuck land

- Makita

We sucked before the trade and we still suck after it. That's about as status quo as it gets.

The guy has his faults but his a big mean dmen who hits, an sooon most nuck fans will come to love him. I wanted the oilers to ppick him up so bad. Now i hope i dont get to see this often.

The Oiler model is impossible for you guys. You'll always be attractive enough of a FA location that you'll never need a full scorched earth rebuild. Also, having two top-4 Dmen in their prime to start a rebuild helps.

Though I can kinda see why, I think Benning has made a mistake of not using one of those 1sts on a Dman yet. No real top pairing offensive threats on the team or in the system as of now so any you draft now won't be impacting the big club for close to 3 years. Moving those 2nds hasn't helped the system, either.

I like this trade. 24 year old dman who's played 5 seasons/309 NHL games and has 346 PIMS.

That ain't easy to find. He paid too much but we have to expect that from JB & Co. just going to have to live with it as long as JB is our GM.

if you look at the d-core going into next year it has been totally overhauled from last YEAR average age now around 24 - 25 yrs old

If they're truly intent on competing, it makes nothing but sense to resign Hamhuis, doesn't it? Gives coverage for any potential Hutton struggles or provides a great mentor/sheltering option for Larsen, Tryamkin, Pedan, etc on the bottom pairing. It also lets Hamhuis keep playing in a role he can succeed in and maybe in that time you can convince him to go to another (frank)ing team as a rental for a couple months for (frank)s sake.

Just like the former 4th overall that Edmonton traded a 16th pick and a 33rd pick for was also a coup

yes a top 4 d who is just coming into his own for a 5goal prospect and some picks that may never pan out....we dealt from strength for our area of weakness much better than a first for a Ballard type player
