Don't you need centers that know what they're doing to trap? They're usually the first point of attack. Basically forcing the puck carrier to move the puck to one side of the ice or the other.
That's the thing I've noticed about Sid, Geno and Bones.... None of them do a very good job at pressuring the puck carrier. Hell, Geno looks pathetic trying to defend. Just waving his stick around. - madmike71
In the third, I think RW was right. Those guys seemed to want no part of actually controlling the puck. So they just stayed stationary and waved their sticks away from their bodies (decreasing momentum or torque, cant recall physics) Just bat it away and hope it isn't iced |

In fairness... It's pretty typical for a team to "push back" like Tampa did last night. It's not just a Penguin problem. It's not exclusive to hockey either. "Prevent defense" is the NFL's version of letting the attacking team have their way.
Just like Tampa nursing that 4 goal lead the other night. The Pens came damn close to tying that up. If the Pens had another couple of minutes, I think they tie that game.

Can you stop calling it "offsides" when it is a single event. The call is "offside" not "offsides". FFS - Chadavitch fans of non playoff team problems

Instead of having one guy pressuring you, you have 2 or 3 bolts players hounding you for the puck and their defense constantly pinching. You have less time with the puck and it ends up being a simple clear. It's really not a brain buster why the pens weren't able to generate much. However, Kunitz and rust were able to make a great play and counter the pressure. |

Its partly due to the 'Collapsing Defense' the pens are always playing in their own end. Sure we've only lost one outta how many games after leading by 2. But it just makes me agitated seeing uncontested shots from the point ring out in the hopes of a deflection or rebound |

Agreed. I think laying back is fine to some extent when you have say a 3 goal lead with 10 minutes left. At that point time works in your favor. Tampa, as you noted, isn't built to do it well either. Some teams were/are...the Broduer era Devils sure could just suck the life out of a game protecting a 1 goal lead. It was unbelievable. |

Michael Sullivan should just declare Jeffrey Zatkoff the starter. That way neither the Fleury nor the Murray camp can be blamed for a bad performance.

If my AmeriCorps term ended just a week earlier and God willing we advanced, I'd definitely drive out to Pittsburgh and live out of my car and watch the games on the big TV. |

This is the whole issue, you are looking for faults. I get it, I used to live like this, always blaming and faulting others. A keyboard assassin you can say. Appreciation will turn this viewpoint around. Once you lace up the skates and play at the speed that is going on out there, I will listen to your negative attributes! Just sit back and watch the game(s) play out, far more enjoyable!! |

Yeah if we advance there's a pretty good chance I make my way to the big screen at least. Maybe I'll even (frank) around and buy some tickets as long as there is a Friday or Saturday game in Pitt. Maybe even a Thursday game. |

Looking for faults? I am almost always one of the mildest guys on here when it comes to the poop storms and overreactions that get kicked up on this board. So in your opinion fans can't analyze the game because we can't play at the NHL level and therefore have no right to criticize any aspect of the NHL game? What are we supposed to talk about then? Holding hands and singing kumbaya about how great the team is can only last and is only interesting for so long. How the hell am I supposed to pass time at work?
No player, no team, and no game is perfect. There's always ways to improve from game to game, and spitballing about possible improvements are generally more interesting and substantial conversations than how wicked Sid's five hole was. |

Well, time to see what kind of team we are. Time to see if we can truly get it done under pressure. Just gotta stay on them- no time to sit back, and no more useless turnovers (Maatta and Letang). As much as Malkin has disappointed me, I've been really impressed the last 2 games. I've got a good feeling. Either way, a hell of a series. |

Got to give that one Tampa fan some credit. Even though his understanding of the rule was delusional, he was going down swinging. |

I thought his left brow was definitely over the line before his belt buckle, which was definitely inside the paint when his visor crossed that just happened to be behind the line when he scored!
That rule sucks if your left brow can't be in front of your leading skates shoelace! |
