Boston gave Kevan Miller 4 years at $2.5m.

Could be something similar on the horizon for Gudas, unless Hexy decides to dump him for a couple of 2nd rounders.

Not thrilled with 4 years, but I'd sign Gudas for 3 years at an aav of 2.5 mil and be happy

Man, (frank) Sweeney.

Gudas being an RFA and having less leverage probably helps. But yeah, contracts like this for worse players does not help.

I think three years is gud. That would make him a 29 year old UFA in 2019, right when Provorov* and Sanheim will need new contracts

*Assuming he plays in the NHL this season.

Might as well have traded those picks away if you're going to use them on low-ceiling crap. If you want 4th-line talent, you go out and sign VDV or White or Bellemare. Not take the infinitesimally small chance that somebody like Klotz/Mathers morphs into a Milan Lucic.

- Tomahawk

Teams should have variety in their drafting strategy. Going for players with a low percentage of making it to the NHL, based on a perceived skill level, all the time is just as bad as drafting 4th line talent level prospects all the time with later picks. Need to find a happy medium. If a player is available that doesn't have a high ceiling, but you think he can be an NHL player and help you on the 3rd or 4th line, is a good pick with a 3rd, 4th or 5th round pick. If it turns out that way, it's a better pick than a reach that never made it.

If only Hinkie was still GM. Just think how many first-round picks he could trade that #1 overall pick for.

I really really would prefer it if we would use most of our first round draft picks on d prospects as long as it doesn't involve us going totally off board to get them. Not all, but like 75% Having a stacked d prospect pool gives you a ton of flexibility and most likely a greater return for your asset when/if you have to trade said prospects.

I really really really hope if jake Bean is around past #10 we trade up and grab him. Im not a huge fan of the prospects the mock drafts have us picking up at 18.

I was listening to the game on radio when Gamble had his heart attack..... we went to see Elton John at the Spectrum that summer after the Pelle tragedy and Elton had a Flyers #31 jersey on and dedicated Your Song to Pelle and I think everybody was crying

not sure if he'll be there or where he is ranked as of now, but check out Keiffer Bellows, son of Brian. Think he is an interesting prospect and would fit great with the flyers.

""We will not bat a thousand on every single draft pick. We also have them by the bushelful, in part, because of that. We don't have any hubris that we will get them all right. We're not certain that we have an enormous edge over anybody else. In some cases, we might not have an edge at all."

Amen, Sam. Amen. Drafting gems is luck. The philosophy behind it isn't.
