Fluery may be done as a Penguin anyway. Three years left on his deal (at a reasonable cap hit). Even if he has a no movement I can see him maybe wanting a change of scenery. There are more than a few teams who could use him for three seasons at 5.75 per.

The Penguins could use the cap space elsewhere.

Why?

also with the expansion draft coming up they will have to protect him. If they prefer Murray then they will have to buy him out and he is free to sign anywhere he wants then.

I would see no motivation to want out this year.

why not a change of scenery? the pressure to perform at a top notch level while crosby and malkin are in their prime would be enough for anyone to want a trade. if you have players like that and you keep losing AND people are more or less making you the whipping boy then yeah, send me to Carolina

Possibly because Fleury feels that the Pens see Murray as the future, and Fleury as the odd man out.

If I were Stamkos I would take the hometown discount to win championships. Personally If I had a choice between making 10 million a year and being a perennial loser, or making 7 million a year and have a chance to win for the foreseeable future, it would be no contest.

I am not saying those will be the numbers, but when you are talking about that kind of money, I would chose winning every time.

That being said, Tampa is deep, they could use that Stamkos money to stay deep, and get deeper.

- MBFlyerfan

Can Tampa even afford to give Stamkos $7M long term tho? Kucherov looks like he's gonna command one hell of a raise, and Hedman is going UFA (!!!!!!) in 13-months.

Pittsburgh's window isn't closed, and they should be a contender next year. Because of this, I can't see them moving MAF. Matt Murray could be the next Patrick Lalime, and even if he isn't, MAF is still a great backup in case poop happens. They'll lose him at the expansion draft, but they can look at him like a rental that you get for the whole season without giving up picks/prospects.

I guess I can just never wrap my head around the belief that some think it is just about money with these guys. Fine with riding the pine as an expensive backup. I wouldn't be fine with it. But I realize my view is in the small minority.

Of course he could win the job outright again next season and its moot.

I've been wondering how his current medical condition may or may not affect his bargaining power. Not sure how he got the clots, but it's keeping from the most important part of the year. I can't believe this will be a non-factor in his contract negotiations, regardless of what the GM's say publicly. So offering and then taking a hometown discount may be his best bet.

Kucherov is making 700k. Palat and Johnson each 3.33 mil. Hedman 4 mil. Drouin 900k. Killorn 2.5 mil.

All of those players gonna get paid over the next couple years. Take whatever you'd pay Stamkos and divvy it up to these guys, who combined are clearly way more important. Hell, Kucherov alone is close to Stamkos at this point. And Hedman I'd take over him in a heartbeat.

Those contracts are going to start skyrocketing. Kucherov could get 6. P/J 6. Hedman 8-9. It might not just be Stamkos who walks but Yzerman who tells him to....

Does Stamkos really want to play for a team that's going to blow a 3 games to 2 lead in the ECF?

I don't know what Stamkos is worth/should get, but you know, after what Hedman has done for the past few years, he's going to get all the money.

He's the mythical #1 defenseman every team wants/covets.

Yeah, not only let Stamkos and probably Bishop walk, but channel Hextall and find takers for Carle/Garrison/Callahan as well. If not, they could be looking at a mini-tear down like the 'Hawks had to do -- victims of their own success and depth.

That London team is STACKED. But hopefully the good that comes from this is the tempering of peoples expectations of Provorov making the Flyers next year and have a season like Ghost. If he makes the club, he'll be 2 years younger than Ghost from last year. Just Sayin'...
- WhirlingDervish

Provorov is to good for junior and very young to be a d man in the NHL. Their should be an exemption rule for guys like him to play in the AHL as it would be the perfect fit for the first half of next year with a possible call up during the season.

On another note Jones looked really good last night and should be available at 18 if the Flyers don't move up. Pu also looked like a third or fourth round player the Flyers should consider.

You go out to lunch at a deli with your friend, waiter serves you pickles of the sour and half sour variety. You go the bathroom, come back, and all the pickles were eaten.

Your friend was Steve Yzerman. No pickles. No pickles at all.

Pu is pretty much a lock for a 2nd. Maybe an early one too. He was the star that night for London. Was so so good. Jones had himself a solid game too. Still gives me pause.

It's funny that Fleury and Stamkos are the big subject on the thread today.

They'll both be Leafs by the end of the draft.

Though he will never make it Hedman is a player I would go all in for as an UFA even more than Stamkos.
