Low percentage play that Lou and Shanny get fished in for Yakacrap for any price,
better chance that Leafs make a play for the 4th pick - will have to be a three way trade involving a defenseman going to the Oilers. Then Leafs can pick up any defenseman in the draft or re-unit Tkachuk with Marner - worked in junior.

Look it is Pronmon that cited age as the primary factor in dropping Matthews to number 2 on his list behind Laine. We know that Yakupov was older by draft standards and that Couturier dropped in the draft with age being a concern.
There are gifted older players. Also you have seen really young players like Huberdeau and Hamilton shoot up in the draft in the last few months.
Bob MacKenzie has a group of scouts that he polls over the year leading into the draft. Before the Worlds he reported that Matthews was no longer a unanimous pick by all the scouts. Scouts were obviously impressed by Laine in Finnish championship play.
The idea that everyone, universally and without any doubt simply and completely believes that Matthews alone is worthy of number 1 consideration is simply not true. - spatso
Actually it pretty much is. The general concensus is that he is the number 1 pick....but Laine has been impressive. |

The fact that he's a potential franchise Center seals it.
I'm going to be happy that the Jets end up with Laine (I think) but if Matthews was available that's who I'd want. - stormey
I was very happy when Winnipeg got the 2nd pick, especially over Edmonton and Vancouver. I am sure the Jets will be very happy with Laine. Are there any trolls on the Winnipeg site that are saying how much better Puljujarvi is than Laine? Annoying isn't it? Jealous a-holes got nothing better to do.

There were scouts that said Tavares couldn't skate well enough to be a 1st line centre and that Duchene was the obvious choice. Hedman was too soft to play the NHL game effectively. MacKenzie espoused that he had "Even seen lists with Duchene and Hedman ahead of Tavares!" Just like he had seen lists with Doughty ahead of Stamkos. Lists with Galchenyuk or Murray ahead of Yakupov. Lists with Drouin ahead of MacKinnon. Lists with Seguin over Hall Etc. etc. It happens every year. Right or wrong in hindsight the consensus number one pick going into the season is selected first overall. Off the top of my head the times the consensus going in wasn't picked in the past decade are 2006 (Kessel was the supposed 1st at years start). 2011 (Adam Larsson was the consensus) 2003 (Zero consensus)
Now I have NO doubt that some scouts have Laine ahead of Matthews. I'm sure you could find some scouts who have Puljarvi ahead of both of them. Or some extremely edgy scout with Sergachev at number one (likely the same guy who thinks Jankowski would be the best player in the draft *cough* Maguire *cough*).
However it doesn't change the fact that Matthews has been ranked 1st since 3 years ago and will almost assuredly be the Leafs pick. Whether it turns out alright is entirely unknown and superfluous since nobody on this board makes the decisions. - AdamFrench
I was just going to say all this exactly

I was at Lobster Clam Jam in mtl on the weekend and was lining up for some Oysters when protesters on the other side of the fence started harping on about how Lobsters have feelings with their megaphone. It was a pretty lame protest. - TheMussel

Rabbit is awesome, horse meat is pretty good too.
For something to live another thing needs to die. That's life.
Plants can communicate amongst themselves and with insects. They can express when they are happy or sad.
They too don't want to die, so where do you draw that line?

It puts me in mind of another Pheonix born prospect that was identified two years out as the phenom that could not fail, the next Vincent LeCavalier. But he got caught up on the age thing when the younger kids played him head to head and they effectively were able to close the gap. Matthews is probably the right pick. But, he made it a lot harder for everyone by avoiding a traditional hockey route heading into the draft. |

Couturier was born in December. Younger than Landeskog who apparently didn't get caught up in the "age thing." |

Ground horse is a great beef or mutton substitute. Quite a bit leaner, has a bit more of an 'iron' flavour to it.
Good for burgers, shepherd's pie, pasta. |

Smart kid - was eating filet mignon and had as many Swiss girlfriends as his heart desired, while the OHL kids were eating McDonald's. He got paid and played against pros. He is well prepared for the NHL. As to that other unnamed prospect - give me a break please. |
