They will want multi year NTCs so I hope Benning has the brains to stay away from them. That's exactly what franked Toronto over the years. - Grumpy13

Then don't sign him, I would rather be a crappy team for a couple more years and roll the dice in the draft lottery system. - VanHockeyGuy
You can sign players without giving a NTC |

A quick comment on yesterday's game, it's too bad it looks like Brouwer has priced himself out of any plans the Canucks may have made for him. The guy is simply playing clutch hockey and is going to command some decent $$$. |

I half expect JB to make a splash and sign a big name ufa or big trade. pressure to sell tickets and have something to market and promote.
Fingers crossed we are not stuck over paying, excessive term on a ufa. pls no ntc's. |

Picking at #5 won't sell any more season tickets. Quite honestly I'm happy to see his UFA contracts expire. JB is better off making one of his "hockey trades" to fill needs and stay young. Hopefully he doesn't feck it up. |

Making some minor moves might be the best option for the rebuild. But, I think the example of signing a ufa like Vrbata 2 seasons ago will be attempted to be duplicated, they will try to bring in someone that can score, but on a short contract.
The playoffs are still a goal and they need more scoring. Eriksson sounds like a good fit with the Sedins, guessing he will be targeted, hope he is only offered 3 years max, 2 would be preferred. |

Panarin 15 points in 7 games.
Chicago has zero shot of affording this kid after next year

Vrbata was an excellent signing, but something went very sour along the way.He still had 43 goals over the last two years for second place on the team.
Miller provided us 2 years so far of solid goaltending and Bartowski at 1.75 for one year should not even be an issue.
Benning gets a lot of bad press for three decent moves. |

I agree.
but there is even more pressure on JB this season to make the club competitive.
hindsight and all, they really should have moved Vrbata last off season. that end of season presser when JB and co were describing the kind of player they envisioned playing with the Sedins, nothing like Vrbata, and Vrbata was signed to play with them |

Vrbata at the time was the best option. It was JBs first swing of the bat. No regrets , he is changing the face of the team.
I fully expect Benning to be active with at least 2 x 5-6 mil contracts just like he did in his first year.
Goaltending is ok now so No need to explore that market.
I do expect them to make a push at a Dman , maybe Yandle 3 years.
I also look at a top 6 forward two year deal.
I also look at a cheaper two year deal for fourth line. |
