Why wouldnt the Avs just keep Barrie instead of replacing him with Edler?
- boonerbuck

There's not many yopung d-men getting 60 points, I don't see him going anywhere
unless JB decides to give up #5 in a package.

Older "core" players...Henrik 36, Daniel 36, Edler 30, Tanev 26.

Younger "core" players...Markstrom 26, Hutton 22, Horvat 21, Virtanen 20, McCann 20, Tryamkin 22, Baertschi 24.

Untouchable prospects...Demko & Boeser

IMO everything else can go during this rebuild, and yes a rebuild is going on presently, if required, but, I'd be pretty unwilling to trade ANY of the above players at this point.

Couture with another point, that's 20, kids on fire. SJ looks like they want this badly.

It's going to break hearts when they lose in the finals.

If they make the finals they're doing a lot of things right.

This SJ team is way to dominant, their positioning is amazing.

He is far from being my favourite player.

I have heard/read others say he is one of those players that elevates their play in the playoffs. That last Calgary series, he didn't start playing/hitting until the writing was already on the wall.

Nobody claimed him off waivers, usually teams in the playoff hunt would have been interested in a guy that could play some pk... never want to see him on the pp again in Vancouver.

Higgins is a first half of the season player and has been that way the entire time he has been a Canuck. Invisible in the playoffs.

Yes they are. Too bad they have quite a few ageing players.

...but just moving up to 5th from 10th and taking a step back with Edler over Barry is not a good deal. Even with the 4rth. In the real world, they would walk away with their 10th still.

He was a great coach for them for a lot of years, they won more games under him than any other team for a good stretch of years.

It was just time to change the lineup and get a new voice behind the bench.

Deal them if the return is there. Over to you JB, this is a big off season for the team and people are not exactly rushing to buy season ticket memberships. #5OA isn't enough, no matter how you spin it.

He was a decent coach with a pretty good roster IMO.

Pavelski is the least known superstar in the league. Aside from a year or two, SJ has been an upper echelon team in the league since Thornton got there.

Barrie is a one-dimensional offensive player, and there's nothing wrong with that, but he can't do a lot of things Edler does, like defend against other teams best players or win puck battles down low.

You need players like Edler AND Barrie to win. I don't think there's a huge difference between the two when you take their entire body of work into consideration.

ya he loved Edler! Just saying taking out Edler and adding Barrie makes the team offensively better, but it also makes them worse defensively. And they had one of the worst goal differentials in the league last year.

My concern isn't the player(s) JB identifies, as much as what he pays for them.
