My wish I wish he would trade for Stamkos before the leafs make their first pick
I would give the eighth overall pick for him if it's a sign and trade in a second

- GERBE!!!75PTS

U would trade #8 for Stamkos?!

No freaking way would I do that!

If he wants to come here, great...
We don't have to give anything up for him

Love this post. Not set in stone, but I still feel we don't know exactly how high Risto, McCabe, Pysyk and even Bogo can get right now, let alone Jack, Sam, Marcus and even Evander, Johann, and Lioneater.
- LandlordTom

I think we know exactly how high Marcus will go. This is it.

Same with Kane, with perhaps a little more room for an upside.

Yep Tom. They are still unproven. They show a chit ton of rainbows and gold. We have nothing other than RoR atm. Another year and we will know what we have .Hoping for the fairy tale coming true.

That makes zero sense
If Stamkos "really" wants to go to a particular team,
Why would they have to give a player up when they could just wait till july1 & sign him for nothing

- jdfitz77

Could be reasons. GMs might be anxious to get a jump on the competition...Juist because he wants to go somewhere the team's GM may not know it.

I don't know, just speculating, hence the "I might be delusional " part of my post.

I wouldn't say hypocritical. I would say inconsistent in your logic.

What does it take to have to "have a healthy career for longevity purposes?" Does Stamkos qualify? It's a routine position on this board that Lehner is "injury prone." Has he suffered more frequent or severe injuries than Stamkos?

Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't try to sign him. I'm saying we should do that with more than a "no brainer" approach.

- Der Kaiser

I get what you're saying...

But I think those in favor of getting Stamkos (myself included) realize there's risks.
There is any time u sign someone for that much $$$
We just think it's worth it

Regardless of all this debate...
It appears the Sabres will go after him
So we've just gotta wait & see if he chooses us

I think GMs would do their due diligence
Tough to see someone giving up anything of value when they could get him for free

Stamkos has had 5 seasons where he didn't miss a game.

7 out of 8 seasons with 75+ games (48 in 48 lockout )

t extrapolating your own words about not knowing who is elite until age 25. I don't claim to be so naive as to think Foligno or Pysyk are going to become elite.

Probably correct as a rule, but there are tons of exceptions, and because we are such a young team and I am a patient person I have an open mind on all those I mentioned.
- LandlordTom

Good players have a tendency to make other players better. We need to have the players that don't need others to make them better. The more we have the better.

Both have the chance to be just that. Foligno got the IT towards the end of the season and
Pysyk is at the make or break moment.

Also if it's like a Mario Williams type situation where he has a handful of teams that he would be fine with; being first is a big leg up. Don't let him out of your sight. Wine and dine. Full court press. Make him an offer he can't refuse. Hold his family hosta... All those cliches.

I remember that goal he scored in the pre-season or very early on a couple years ago where he went coast to coast weaving in and out and roofed it. Reminded me a hell of a lot like Niedermayer. I want that guy back.

If the sabres managed to land both stamkos and yandle

what one player would you target for in the trade, and at what cost?

I think you go all in for 1 more d man

It's less about age and more about NHL games played IMO.

Some of them have played 200+ games. I think after 2 or 3 full seasons you know what you have

- sbroads24

pysyk, foligno, girgens

etc

none of which impress me

Then you get rid of Bogo who's being paid top pair money, or buy out Moulson, trade Ennis etc.

With star players you make it work. People are acting like Eichel is already making 10 mil and we are close on the cap.

- sbroads24

this

risto, reinhart and eichel, none of them are anything close to earning a massive payday as of now

and as a sabre fan, I have learned potential is just that

If I were the Sabres, and I'm not, I would be.steering clear of Yandle. And to whomever recommended trading #8 overall for Stamkos, are you fkn crazy? Here's an idea, wait until he becomes a free agent and sign him and keep the #8 overall pick.

I really don't know why people are so down on Yandle. I wouldn't back up the truck for him, but he's easily a $5.5M-$6M ~$20M total guy in this current climate. Unfortunately I 'd bet someone will back up the truck for him and give him $6.5 for 5 or 6 years.

Hard to say. Last summer the GM's were stingy. It's a nice trend. With superstar players making 10 mill, and everyone seems to have 1 or 2 ( at least potentially) guys like Yandle might not get as rich as they think.
Sekeras was th best UFA D last year and we got him for a reasonable price. Look at the Walmart price you got Franson for.
