Realistically speaking...I think the Flyers are set up better long term than most teams to afford a guy like Stamkos and I am not just saying that for the hell of it
- YuenglingJagr

you can afford the top heavy guys if you can get some spots anchored by ELCs. the flyers appear to be in a decent spot for this to occur.

i dont know if the flyers necessarily should get him or not. thats a different question. but with the pipeline looking the way it is, that definitely would help to make it a mathematical feasibility.

Your first handful of points is good but might also need a little supplemental "TRADE THE SOME OF THEM FOR SOME OF THE OTHER ONES!!!!!1" in year two or three.

I wouldn't even argue that. Just because it hurts us less than it would hurt.... Pittsburgh; doesn't mean we should make the move. It just means our cap was in better shape. His contract can work for very few teams. And he's not even a difference-maker like a player of Crosby/Toews/Ovechkin's ilk.

i'm actually more comfortable with their cap situation than I have been in some time. but it definitely carries risk for any team.

it would be interesting to see how stamkos would fit in philly. would you do a 1 2 center combo of stammer and giroux? or play stammer as the sniper on giroux's line and bump jake down to the second with coots.

90 points out of the 3rd line means 3 players averaging 30 points.
60 points out of the 4th line means 3 players averaging 20 points.

Please tell me what team in the past 25 years has had that kind of production at that level?

That was a different time.

If your only getting picks you might look at something like Kimmo.

He got a 2nd and then a conditional 4th(that got to 2nd)

But I am not sure Streit has the same value as Kimmo did.

- J35Bacher

Streit probably doesn't have that value now but a contender may have ever a real need in March which will increase his value. Kris Russell went for a 2nd and I'm not sure one can argue that he is that much better than streit

Not only that but most of their current core is locked up long term (with no real core defensemen) and the bloated deals they signed for mid level guys are all expiring. The biggest issue will be MDZ and goalie contracts for a while. and then you shouldnt have MUCH to worry about until Simmonds wants a new contract (which id hesitate to give anyway.

None of the defensemen can take up too much salary for at least 3 years (and bridge deals could be signed if needed but LT deals would be better) All of the bloated contracts are gone in the next 2 besdies AMac who could be traded or expansioned.

The Flyers are essentially near the end of the salary purge, which started 2 years ago, and are now going to have 3 years of ELCs for hopefully a good 15-20% of their roster. They also can bring the young guys along slower since they have a competitive team currently

I get that...I am not saying the Flyers should sign him at all. I have stated my opinion on the matter. Find the next Stamkos, not Stamkos

say it takes 12 mil per to get him. what sort of team wide cap ramifications does that have throughout the lineup?
- stayinthefnnet

Honestly I don't see Stamkos getting a higher cap hit then toes and Kane. Somewhere between 9 and 10 million. Long gone shot but if Stamkos signs in Philly wouldn't shock me to see voracek dealt.

Yeah sure...we can throw in some retained salary to in effect boost Stamkos' cap hit

He's a good player now, but he'll be looking to ink for 5-7 years... he's gonna start to look more and more like Umberger sooner than later.

Why would Stamkos get more then Kane? Even a team like buffalo has to plan their salary cap 4 years out. It's fun to speculate about Stamkos. He has rare ability that not a lot of teams possess. I don't see a market where Stamkos gets 12 million with an uncertain cap containing to keep going up each year.

Do it for ed.

My guess is hexy takes a run at brouwer which I'm fine with. He could play a top 6 role but could slide down to the third line if konency excels
