They will have a little more then 10 because of Lecavalier retiring.

I think they do look for bottom 6 help but Neilson wants to stay in NY. I don't want both Martin and White.

Also the Phantoms have bottom 6 players in Leier, Bardreau, McDonald.

Grabner, Nash I don't really see as upgrades to the team.

ANd I agree I don't want to pay for guys like Lucic, Eriksson or Okposo.

I would rather spend money on Stamkos, a top 6, 26 year old sniper. He fits all the needs this teams needs. If they could get him at 10 or under I think he would be ideal.

Brouwer would interest me depending on cost.

Someone here mentioned Andrew Ladd before, he'd be someone I'm interested in.

I don't know.

He is 31 I belive and I think he wants to stay in Chicago. Thought I read he might take a discount to stay there. Pretty sure it pissed off the WPG people since they offered him something in the 6mil range.

pens third line?

what with that like 16 million in salary and all tied up in it haha. and yes, i'm just giving you a hard time.

- stayinthefnnet

There are some third lines out there that can do it (see: Jordan Staal in 06/07 - 11/12). But my question was to name a team that had that production out of both its third and 4th lines.

I don't even think the 95/96 Red Wings had that kind of production, and they were probably the closest with guys like Draper and Maltby on the 4th line.

I cannot wait for Stamkos to sign somewhere so that we can stop talking about him.

I hope he signs a 1-year deal so that we can talk about it next year, too.

Is the problem with Stamkos just the money?

Just curious because I see a player that fits everything the Flyers need and at an age that allows for him to be part of the future.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong. More curiosity.

in today's modern NHL, its virtually impossible.

you have to have the perfect storm of guys severely outplayingI contracts. hit on a few rookie ELCs. and still to afford that kind of depth you likely will have to have a first or second line that most people would turn their nose up at because each of those players aren't front line enough to average 65 plus points because the funds simply arent there.

say it takes 12 mil per to get him. what sort of team wide cap ramifications does that have throughout the lineup?

Exactly. You could have an anomaly like Talbot who scores close to 20 goals, but you'd need 4-5 anomalies to get that kind of production from the bottom-6. And as you said, if you put the necessary funds there, your top-6 will likely suffer.

What they need is an overhaul of the defense and to start to filter in a few guys in their bottom-9 (some of Konecny, Leier, Fazleev, NAK, Lindblom, etc.) which will take a few years.

Because then it would be a realistic discussion, instead of a ridiculous pipe dream.

"I hope Stamkos chooses us over the other 29 teams that have a better chance of affording his cap hit"

as opposed to:

"I dunno how Hexy swung it, but he fit Stamkos' cap. Where does he slot in? Who is on his line? What valuable FA's are we going to lose down the line due to this albatross of a contract?"

Ya know. Stuff like that.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what Eric Lindros' CF% was between 92/93 and 99/00? Just curious if he was any good or not.

Realistically speaking...I think the Flyers are set up better long term than most teams to afford a guy like Stamkos and I am not just saying that for the hell of it

For me it is just about the cap hit. But at 26 years old, you have to think hard about it. A player of his pedigree does not come available in FA all that often....and even more rarely does he come available at 26.

I think hard about it because he is so young, he is not some aging vet on the downside of his prime, he is just coming in to his prime years.

That is all I'm saying.

Gross. I'd rather have Schenn + Simmonds over Stamkos. I'd also rather hold onto both Mason and his backup (Neuvirth) for this season. Maybe trade the other if there's a clear-cut favorite during the season.

You're also selling low on Read and Streit.

All of this so that we can saddle ourselves with a terrible contract? I don't get it. He's not the answer to all of our problems. And signing him at the risk of losing Schenn+Simmonds is just further worsening the team's depth issue.
