Well, I completely misread that

Firing him now has to mean they are taking a run at BB. If they wanted another coach they could have had him at the end of the season when teams would normally fire a coach.

I just hope to christ that they don't bring in Crawford or Wilson

Ottawa already been given permission to talk to BB. Flames better hurry if they want him.

Given the choice between playing on a budget team that has fired 2 coaches in what 3 years? Or an up and coming team with budding superstars like Bennett, JG, Monahan and Brodie and an ownership that is willing to spend to the cap?

I think we should have the inside track on him, if we are indeed after BB.

The start contrast between Hartley and Ron Wilson post game interviews.

Eric Francis - Q: "Do you think the players are buying into your system, or is it just a personnel issue?"

Hartley - A: "Well, you know,... laike,... sometimes,.. The guys are getting where dey needs to be, and they're trying to do what we asks of dem, but it's a process, ... and so long as dey puts in the efforts, we are going to supports them, it's like when a kid is learning to rides a bike, a dad doesn't chastise da boy when he false off, he helps him along and da process continues,... right, right"

Wilson - A: "WHAT DO YOU THINK ERIC? ,... I'm out there every day , saying the same things over and over,.... NEXT QUESTION"

Jermaine Franklin - Q:"When you think about all the times you were,.... Well, ... uh,..sometimes,... uh,.. If the forwards keep trying to be creative out there, when they know that you want a strict system of forward advancement up the ice, .... Do the goalies think the d-men are supporting them behind the net?"

Hartley - A:"You know Jermaine, you always ask such weird questions, I think they are communications out there that is comings along, it takes time, and they are getting to a point when they playing like a 5 man unit."

Wilson - A: "What in God's name are F---ing talking about,? Ask a Damn question like a human being who knows the English language,... Who gave you a microphone? Next question".

I'm trying not to be biased here, but I'd choose the Flames over both of those teams in a heartbeat. The wild are a mess and will most likely be retooling over the next few years and the Sens are too god damned cheap to put the players around Karlsson that are needed to win a cup.

As a coach (Babcock is the exception) you want to put yourself in a position to succeed. If we were going against the Oilers and Sabres for BB, then I'd say that they'd have the inside track on landing him.

...although I could see Yeo being a possibility, forgot all about him.

What else are they going to say? If they say Hartley was fired because they want BB, and then do not get BB, it would look pretty bad.

IMO they want BB and were told they needed to poop or get off the pot.

One plus for Bruce Boudreau, the color of his face will match the Flames uniforms perfectly.

Its weird that they let go of Hartley and Cloutier, yet Gelinas stays (for now). Are they thinking about promoting him? That would be a train wreck.

If they are talking about change in direction, they axe everyone or just the HC and let the new coach decide what to do with the associate coaches.

Its weird that they went down the middle with that move.

It depends, what sort of roster control and say does a HC have, if he is just a puppet master in Calgary with no say of what his roster is going to be, doesnt matter how much young talent there is, the draw is less

Guys like BB are probably tired of being thrown under the bus, so he wants input into the players he is going to coach. Cant see Burke giving up control or having too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to the roster.

I could see Gelinas getting a front office job if whomever comes in does not want him.

But yes, kinda strange.

I was sceptical when he first hired BT when Burke said he would be staying out of the day to day operations, but he seems to be keeping his promise.

BH was actually given decent control over the players he played during his time here with BT.

He was allowed to demote Baert, he scratched two of our highest paid players in Jones and Wideman when they weren't performing, and it seemed like he had some input on the players they brought up from Stockton and was somewhat involved at the draft and in free agency.

I'd rather keep the coach and GM separate anyway, I don't think it's better for the team if you have a coach that wants to play GM so if that's what BB is after then I'd rather the Flames go after a promising rookie coach.

Now Ortio might have a chance to win the starting job next year. Not sure he's the answer, but he didn't have a chance if Bob was still here.

yes despite the fact that BT has repeatedly implied they're looking for a new goalie next year
