Maybe Dale got pushed out of the picture after he gave Bolland that ridiculous contract. I wonder if Dale thinks with his heart rather than his head. - Dieselhead
On Sirius XM this morning, a TSN analyst said that the Miami owner wanted to go with a guy more versed in analytics than Dale in the GM's chair. |

And he has been better than nearly all of the Star's NHL regulars on defense. It was an awful trade, and some people like to marginalize players who have been moved. Leddy has been fantastic since leaving the Hawks (#1 D in Brooklyn), yet he "isn't even a top 4D" in the eyes of some. Its a way that some fans help themselves feel better about the plethora of lopsided Salary Cap compliance trades that StanBo has been a part of. - EnzoD
There are reasons both aren't here as we all know....But losing both and not getting anything or very little in return will hurt for awhile....probably quite awhile.
I saw your post about Crawford Darling...The numbers work but if Crawford goes and they take back $3 mill in salary, let's say....And Darling works out-They only kicked the can down the road as there won't be any cap savings when Darling resigns.
But maybe they will have no choice but to buy time that way....I think the front office knows without Crawford they could have missed the playoffs this season and that's with a career year by Kane.
I still think Crawford will be here in October as they won't take the risk....

They moved Tallon away from the checkbook. The politically correct thing to say is what they did...The "analytics" they are talking about is not paying 3rd/4th line guys $3-$4 mill per.
Tallon is a great scout....He would be a great adviser but balancing the checkbook is not his strong suit at all.

I've always said Tallon looks good because he's never been up against the cap, here or in Miami.
I guess add - he's never been up against an owner's cap - until now. |

Leddy is at least top 4 on any team right now

All how you look at at it...Tallon helped the Hawks be up against the cap in 2010 but he also drafted some of the players that won the Cup in 2010.
Issue now is the Panthers bottomed out and drafted well ...So they have young players that will need to be paid-So it's tough and Tallon has never really signed veterans to contracts which would be considered modest. That is exactly what is needed in Florida now.

Love Troy Brouwer but pulling for Oduya, Johns, Sharp & Dallas.
Want to end the "we were a two-posts-and-out-away from moving on and getting to the SCF" (or maybe SC winner), we lost to the champ in 7 games crowd. Would love Dallas to pull it out and beat the Blues.
Then and only then will there be any possibility of any kind of substantive changes of Chicago roster, GM moves and coaching strategies.
And maybe regardless of what happens, no changes happen regardless. I'm guessing we'll see the latter. |

It would be conpletely out of character for StanBo to be proactive, rather than reactive when addressing the Salary Cap crunch this team faces. I agree with the entire post and I cannot stand the Blues so I was always rooting for anyone but them to win the Cup. Same goes for Dallas and Nill for the abuse he did to our roster this summer... |

Agree with you Enzo, don't want to see Blues or Dallas win it -- hate to say I am pulling for SJ to get to the Finals (don't like Laviolette either, probably a carryover from his Philly days). Wouldn't mind seeing Pavelski and a few others get to the Finals.
I suppose at this point, I am really not pulling for any of the potential Cup winners. Crosby is a baby (but I like Sullivan and his Chicago ties), can't stand Malkin but like the rookie G Murray and what he's done. Can't stand Ovechkin and would love the Caps to continue in their perennial chokers role. Don't like Cooper in Tampa but sure do like several of their guys (Hedman in particular).
This year seems to be a "lesser of evils" kind of Cup final coming. |

This x 1000!!
I want San Jose, too, and I think they may match up better against Dallas. Plus, I can't fruckin' stand the Blues. Plus I am hopeful that if the Blues go out now, the Hawks won't think they are "close" to being true contenders, as was mentioned. |

For whoever is watching the Blues/Stars game. I agree with pulling Elliot but with 3 min left in the first wouldn't it be better (for Allen anyway) to wait until the start of the second to do it? |

On this Hawks team Leddy would never be more than a #4D, at least not while 2/4/7 are in the house. If Leddy would have stayed for $3mil over a few years they would have kept him, but it was clear that was not going to happen. |

The choice was to keep Oduya or keep Leddy...That's what it boiled down to that summer. Bowman kept Oduya and they won the Cup-So I can't say he made the wrong choice.
The pedal is always down to the floor board with Q, and Leddy was never developed while here to be more than a #5....That's what he was although through no fault of his
own. |

I agree with you on his spot in the depth chart and you can't argue against the '15 Cup win. My gripe has always been the return for this top pairing Dman(on 20+NHL teams) with 300 NHL games and at age 23(when traded). |

I'm sure you noticed him "checking" for a broken stick, likely selling his (frank)-up to the Dallas faithful (and maybe the bench as well). No Sharpie, your stick wasn't broken, you just don't remember how to play D in your zone. |

So you want a complete overhaul of the team that won 2 of the last 3 Cups?
Makes total sense to me.
Please enlighten all of us with some of your suggestions for personnel changes and strategic changes. |
