There's nothing wrong with Panarin wanted to maximize his earnings...it's the right of every NHL player. Maybe Panarin didn't communicate his intentions properly or maybe he did, some times things get lost in translation. Maybe Panarin really wants to stay in Chicago but understands (like the rest of us) that the cap adds a serious wrinkle to make that happen and he doesn't like it. Would any of us feel any different? - DarthKane
And lest we all forget Saad said "all the right things" but did so,etching completely differnt in the end. It's what you do that matters. And speaking from experience (English to Spanish and vice versa) I don't trust other folks' translations as being accurate. And I'm pretty sure NONE of the Blackhawks (coaches players or FO) like their cap situation. |

Panarin's MRI negative. #Blackhawks fans can breathe now. Will likely play again in the Worlds. |

Our own @AlCimaglia just tweeted
Tom Rowe has replaced Dale Tallon as Panther's GM. Tallon moves "upstairs" away from the checkbook drawer. Tallon is signed through 2019. - Marlowe
Heard a rumour about a month ago (directly from the Panthers FO) that Uncle Dale hasn't been making the calls for a while. Behind the scenes, Tom Rowe has been in charge while Panthers owners pushed Dale out of the picture.
My "source" and I speculated that Dale will get "promoted" in the off-season where he'll see his golf game flourish. |

Al - do you think this could mean Soupy more likely to come back to Chicago when his contract is up? |

Campbell's name has been brought up a lot, but I really don't see him back. He'll still want more money than Chicago can afford (cap wise). My guess is that he stays in Florida. |

He's got the Ross and if he wins either or both of the other two awards for which he is nominated, does Kane get bonus money that will also count against the cap? Or, is any money covered by the league? - pdx2ord
i would doubt it....when you are top 3 paid in the league...you should be hart/ross candidate every year...

Tampa is looking good. But I was looking at their cap space... yikes.
Kucherov is RFA, as is Killorn. The next tier down, Namestnikov, Brown, and Paquette are RFA and NEsterov on D is RFA.
The year after, Johnson, Palat, and Drouin are RFA. Sustr is RFA on D, and Hedman on D and Bishop in G are UFA.
There's no way in hell they keep Stamkos... They don't really need him, for one. And his current $7.5M could easily be spent just on Kucherov and Killorn this year, depending on Kucherov's demands. He has had more points than Saad this year and last, and we all know how much Saad got... |

You are right Every player likes to maximize his earnings however, most players would not say, " we will talk about the contract over the summer and to say "the team has a very bad Cap problem". Furthermore, it is kind of odd for Panarin to say Anismov was the main player on the ice that helped him do so well. If I was Kane, I would shake my head with that answer. Panarin should remember if it wasn't for Kane he probably would have 10 goal less and 10 less assist and minus 1.5 + million less in bonus money. IMO Panarin sounds more and more like his comrade from the Washington Capitals. He expects to win the Rockies of the year award but in the beginning of the season Panarin thought it was insulting to win that honor. I really hope I am wrong about Panarin. |

Sorry, wasn't thinking a bonus clause in his contract, a la Panarin, instead about whether any associated cash prize comes with the awards (couldn't find any info on that, so maybe there isn't one). And, if one did, whether the team and/or the NHL would eat the cost. |

Not really. That is the same answer Kane has given as well - they have both had high praise for Anisimov for opening up space for them. |

The Lightning will be the next team to be majorly stung by the salary cap. That's the price they'll pay for developing players so well.

That is correct about praising Anisinov but we also have to realize that Kane never had a center like Aniimov In three years when playing on the second line ... Bottom line I still think when Panarin is playing next to the top scorer in the league I would give first credit to Kane... I guess it doesn't really matter what Panarin says, it's all conjecture. Will he sign with the Hawks is the only thing that matters. I will leave it at that. |

DMI was thinking the same thing
if stamkos wants toews/kane type contract...i let him go...they are doing just fine put those $$'s to your current young core and build around that...why play the mega star mega $$$ game in a hard cap that world that is stagnant...

Not unless Campbell would be willing to leave a lot of dough on the table...Like in the neighborhood of $2 mill per season.

I don’t think Panarin’s intentions have changed. He was a bit coy at the beginning of the season maybe to keep expectations low, but I think what you see is what you get with him. For sure if Panarin is an English speaker, the media would have been all over him this season and we’d likely know him better. The salary cap comment is odd, but maybe we lost the nuance of what he was trying to say in the translation. |

He will need to find a team that is willing to give a 35+ player a generous contract. The Hawks can't/won't. He is destined for the expansion team in Vegas eventually. |

Except when he says it in Russian, which was the case here. Still a hard-to-read-into turn of phrase. |

The NHL CBA is friggin' terrible. The formula for success is to have a core of 4-6 top earners, have 3-4 mid-salary guys who are loyal to your franchise, and then hope you can find lightning in a bottle with the other 10-13 players.
If any of those bottom guys develop into top-6/top-4? Likely gone through free agency. The NHL's cap is the most punitive in terms of making a successful franchise lose developing players year after year. Hoping Bettman is gone for the next contract negotiations. |
