Would you guys trade Mathews for Strome, 7th (Nylander), and 20th pick......
wonder if Strome + 20th pick would get it done but have to think not. Maybe Domi and those picks but have to think they want center - AlfieisKing
Not a Leafs or Zona fan but I think these trade proposals are nuts!! no way EITHER team is making these trades. |

I look at it as ..... We actually for once have players for them to make ridiculous proposals about. It's cute for now.
It could be worse

I get it, and I'm not taking anything away from Mathews but I read on other posts today how Strome, Domi, OEL and the 7th overall wouldn't be enough and this was by multiple Leaf fans. I mean lets get serious for a second!! No way in hell the Coyotes are offering that but its even more ridiculous to say its not enough!!

He's a franchise center. A game changer. The leafs aren't going to trade him. If they were going to think about it, it'd have to be for an offer that is ridiculously over the top. |

That's a positive way to look at things. Certainly better than the old Luoungo trade proposals from Canucks fans before he was shipped out.
Still annoying people actually think we're going to trade a (probably) future #1 center for a bunch of lesser prospects and picks. If Arizona put in a ridiculous proposal starting with OEL it might tempt management, but probably still wouldn't do it and neither would Arizona. Without OEL, its like us suggesting Edmonton trade us Mcdavid for Nylander, Kadri, Dermott, and Pitts 1st. "But look at all the nice players your getting..." Still rather have a future superstar than all those guys - and I like those players too. |

You might be right. Some folks should just say no we're not trading him under any circumstances.
But what do I know. I'm just here for the dyck and fart jokes.

It was the same for Ekblad, it was the same for Mcdavid and it will be the same for Mathews the leafs won't trade it unless another team ridiculously overpays. You would have to be crazy to give up a chance to draft a potential franchise center man. It will be the same for Winnipeg and the jackets as well. The top 3 is too good to trade out of it. |

People don't know how to react. This is the first time most of us are seeing the team we cheer for with an enviable asset. If Matthews isn't a superstar and just an excellent player he will still be an excellent player the Leafs drafted and cultivated. That adds to the value for some fans, even if it seems crazy saying no to a deal like that. Which would never be offered, and never refused. |

I dunno what the dramatics are always about. I don't generally post "what if" proposals but folks get bent out of shape like their GM's might be listening and considering our opinions. Whether it's trolls or simple fans spit balling for fun.... Nothing to get worked up about IMO |

It's not ELC's that are exempt from expansion draft. It's anybody who has played 2 years or less of AHL/NHL.
So for the Leafs we want both teams to come in this year as many of our Marlies and young players will play in their 3rd pro seasons next year.
I'm not sure if last season's half year of AHL counts for Nylander. If it does count then he currently has 2 years. Exempt this year but not next year. Connor Brown is exempt this year but not next year, etc. |

anybody drafted last draft or next draft like marner and matthews are safe for two seasons. if marner goes back to ohl he is safe for three seasons if it goes that long to get bith lv and que in the league. |

A small reason..but another thing to think about with people wanting to trade the 1st overall pick. Mathews will be exempt from being picked. Strome, Domi, etc will not |

The bigger conundrum but possibly further down the road is signing all these guys. The Leafs have so many picks over the next two drafts and it seems as though they've hit on a few from the past two. There's going to be a log jam.
I think we are gonna see a few of these real promising kids get packaged sooner than later for vets and established young players. I don't think they have a choice.

No kidding. It wasn't that long ago people thought Hedman was a bust and then all of sudden a few more horses (Stralman, Carle, Coburn, Garrison) are added on D and he's excellent.
Karlsson played with Boroweicki or whatever his name is. Plays 30 minutes a night and the team is never outscored with him on the ice. Can't blame a guy that the rest of his team is trash. OEL has been stuck in Arizona but he's still great. - Lindenis#1
I know stats mean nothing but he was a -2 this year |

Stralman..... You could just see his poise with the puck. Even early. That was one I said would bite us in the arse. |

Yeah that offer is more than enough to get the top pick but no way in hell the non-OEL deals get done. Offering Strome, 7th overall, NYR 1st for Matthews is like Toronto offering Edmonton Marner, Nylander, and PIT's 1st for McDavid. It isn't going to happen and stop offering it. As good as those players are they can be replaced and found far more easily than a 1st overall pick franchise level center.
The only way to get Matthews would be to offer an over the top package. That will have to include OEL+++ which is stupid from Arizona's point of view. |

Funniest part is the fact that I'm on hold and they said we match any price.
I went oh (frank), what else can I get? The TV is 200$ cheaper on Amazon from what I could tell and was like oh hell yeah. So I bring it up to the guy and he says, well, I see it for 700.03$ less so we'll refund you that and in my mind I'm like holy (frank)
But sir, I still have another problem
My god did that work out. I think she'll be more proud I argued and got that off than anything hahahahaha |
