Well they sort of did tank there in the end with all the Sparks starts but they still had more points than they did last year while only having a 20% chance at picking first. Not exactly the same as finishing with 50ish points in the McJesus draft where you were guaranteed to at least get Eichel by being last.

With that said, suck it, Leafs got Matthews.

The funny part about all of this is, that according to a great writer on here, the Sabres didn't do the exact same thing just the year before. That's what the (frank)ed up thing is.

People like to say the leafs aren't the centre of the hockey universe, but yet they can't stop talking about the leafs. So ironic.

@BNHarrington: If you're gonna say #Leafs didn't tank cuz they played hard, you don't understand it at all. Players & coaches don't tank. GMs & owners do.

In the end, there were games where, say what you want about Bernier, he was playing pretty good, and they played Sparks when it pretty much looked like that was playing the worse goalie when rest wasn't a factor.

On the other hand, they did play their hotshot AHL stars when they didn't have to.

I don't know, trading Phaneuf, is that tanking? Really? Or just sound management.

What I find funny though is people say the Leafs shouldn't have 'tanked', which I guess means they should have made the playoffs. How the hell were they supposed to do that?!

So I replied to Harrington to point out that they got more points than the year previous, which kinda counteracts his bullpoop and he said:

"@Lummis83 Stop. One more. In a year where there wasn't there sub-60 teams in the league. Don't cite that as any accomplishment."

So wait the teams around them are doing better, so the Leafs finishing with MORE points despite playing against altogether better achieving opposition means that they tanked...?

@gbradyradio: I wouldn't trade the #1 for Domi, 7th overall and Coyotes 1st and 2nd next season. No chance. twitter.com/isheetmadrourz…

Bernier played pretty well in the 2nd half really. He almost entirely cut out the stupid gimme goals. Had he started every game minus the odd back to back down the stretch I'm sure the Leafs would have picked up an extra point or two and (frank)ed their pick up. I'm glad we don't have to second guess anything now.

The Phaneuf trade wasn't tanking at all. It was a cap move. What was their record before and after the trade anyway?

Stop talking about tinordi. He can't play in this league. For (frank) sakes man he was useless as poop on two of the weakest teams in the league. Why the (frank) would we want him? No skills, slow as (frank), dumb as bricks.

How do you know hunter likes him?

The guy sucks balls and got caught cheating, and still he sucks. Enough of this poop. This management group has made it abundantly clear they aren't idiots, they aren't adding a useless twat to take up space and provide nothing of value. Posting stupid poop like this doesn't bode well for you.

Also people dont seem to understand theres a limit to how many great prospects you can have.. theres literally no room for any more top forwards.

It's interesting, because let's just say Matthews is a true all star, ppg 1C...could still be the best asset in that deal. Then again you never know, but that 7th, 1st and 2nd could easily end up being good but not great.

But the Leafs won't trade the pick. Not with the prospects they already have, they don't need to. Mathews is exactly what they need.

not particularly. this is probably toronto's best shot at getting a franchise center. they already have depth skill guys in the system (marner, nylander) and will probably get another top 5-10 pick next year. domi and strome have a chance at being great but matthews is less of a risk and likely fills a greater need.

I don't even know how losing Phaneuf affected their record, not much would be my guess.

Yeah, and my guess is that Bernier's improved play surprised the Leafs. Reimer's numbers were great. Bernier was brutal. They traded the one good goalie they had at the deadline. But he was a UFA anyway, so it's a natural move.

The Leafs 'tanked' by making a bunch of really smart moves, no-brainer moves. What else are they supposed to do? Make the playoffs and win a Cup?
