I'm not so sure that Bonino was turfed for his performance. Sutter's type of game was more desirable for where this team is defensively. Unfortunately, there is not much to compare when Sutter was injured almost the entire season.

I think he played well for the canucks. 75gms, 15g, 24a, 39p, and +7.
That's not horrendous. Just didn’t fit in JB’s scheme.

No. Never said that. Never made a connection between JB and Bonino. Just stated he's a good 2nd line/3rd line NHLer.

He is a serviceable player at a great cap hit. He was too slow for our aging roster

Do you think Utica's recent playoff performance might tarnish that shine a little bit?

They are going to steal Travis from Utica and it will make me really sad.

I think Green is overrated like most of our players are overrated. He appears to be a bright coaching "prospect." He is unproven and I can't imagine any team giving him a head coaching position. Wouldn't be shocked if he was offered an assistant job somewhere but if memory serves me correctly he turned down an assistant job last year.

Are we not 'rolling the dice' with sutter as well? Same questions plague both players... mainly consistency. Obviously JB felt Sutter can contribute more than Bonino and that's fine with me. Time will tell.
- bloatedmosquito

That is an absolutely fair question to ask especially given the extension.

I didn't particularly like the contract extension (more when than anything else) but I see that as a smaller risk than letting bonino play out his reasonable deal and then try to extend him.

I go back to my original thought: Sutter is a better fit in Vancouver which in my opinion makes it less risky to pencil him long term than Bonino.

He did turn down an assistant job. I am not sure how anyone can considered him overrated as he hasn't had an opportunity to prove himself at the NHL level. His name has been in constant conversation the last 2 years so it just wouldn't surprise me to see him go to a team like ANA or OTT.

I disagree. I think he gets hired as a head coach within the next 12 months.

I may have sipped on the Kool aid but I was hoping he'd be around next year when I think WD will get turfed.

No sure if serious but every season there seems to be a golden child coaching in the AHL or some Junior team. IMO, it seems like more hype than substance.

Is it wrong that I don't care about Bonino? Like not even one little bit?
- LeftCoaster

In a canuck context, no. In a NHL playoff personal interest story, sure. Interesting dynamic playing out in Pitts.

Of course, media already writing articles on "does Bonino make Malkin expendable". So I guess it's a relevant hockey story.

I see his tweet that players with NMC must be protected in expansion draft, but NTC's are not exempt and can be exposed

That's interesting. The expansion draft is going to wreak havoc in the league. I wonder how the NHLPA is going to react?

I would be very tempted to put up Sbisa and/or Dorsett

And that's acceptable to the NHLPA? Wow.

Chicken and ribs are amazing. Good beer on tap now as well. The chicks have gone down hill though

I went in for their exceptional winter pudding ale but they never freaking have it...and yes the talent has dropped there. I was in Dublins pub in Cloverdale last night watching the game and my god...the hotties...head was on a swivel.

Apparently they were part of the process. The legality issue comes that NMC prevent "involuntary relocation of a player, whether by trade, loan or waiver claim" so I guess the NHLPA equate the expansion draft similarly to the waiver wire. NTC's dont block waivers, so those guys are sitting ducks

Player Safety is an absolute JOKE

Tom Wilson fined $2,403.00 (maximum fine) for his kneeing on Sheary.
No Suspension...
