His lateral movement is brutal. His burst of speed is gone. Still strong as an ox and thinks the game well, but he can't move well enough to help at ES, especially at the cost

Sometimes, winning is letting other teams suffer with their own tough situations

And by "truly despicable players", I mean about 95% of today's players, and close to 100% of players from the 70s through 2000s. Although I'm sure that the amount of racial and ethnic slurs has decreased significantly over that time.

Why give away a pick or prospect for a guy whose contract expires at the end of the season? They'll have enough space to do whatever they want in UFA this year (except for maybe Stamkos, if they go after him) and then he's gone. No need to just give away assets.

Read+pick to a team like Buffalo for one of their prospects

What pick and which prospect? I sure as hell am not giving up Read and a 1st for Brady Austin. And I doubt Buffalo would do Read and a 7th for Hudson Fasching.

I think Read would be a nice player for EDM. They could use a good role player like him.

Read is at worst a 4th liner. Play him on the 4th in VDV's spot if that's what they want. He'd probably improve the line.

Read for Pouliot.

Oilers save 300k and some change on cap hit and one less year. Flyers get a slightly better Read, IMHO

So Edmonton wants to get worse for a $300K cap savings??? They're not exactly tight to the cap or run on a shoestring budget.

Also, Pouliot had some great chemistry with McDavid, so I don't think they're in a hurry to nix that. I think a guy like Maroon/Hendricks/Korpikoski is more likely.

The value that you place on Taylor Hall. Neither the Flyers nor the Oilers would do that deal.

Wayne Simmonds fills a need as the team's most physical forward as well as a great net-front PP player and a fantastic teammate. Travis Sanheim is one of the most offensively-gifted defense prospects in all of hockey.

Taylor Hall is (currently) the captain of the Oilers and a very good/great player at even strength, an area of need, but not on the PP, another area of need if Simmonds goes. He also fails to provide the kind of physical play that Simmonds can bring.

Basically, Philadelphia would be filling one hole while opening up another one while losing a top-4 prospect and a pick. On the other hand, the Oilers fill a need without addressing their current defense while losing their captain.

if the Flyers are considering moving up, I'd like to see them move up to 10-15 to take McLeod!!

"Is not Dave's culture, it's the Flyers culture. It's the culture that Mr. Snider established and passed on the Bob Clarke, Dave Poulin, and anyone that came through here. It's what we're all about as an organization. Dave [Hakstol] was chosen as a coach partly because he understands that culture, he believes in that culture, which is what he created in North Dakota. This is the Flyers culture and I think we all have an enormous responsbility to uphold the identity, the culture, the tradition of the Philadelphia Flyers, as Mr. Snider did for 49 years.

Please tell me that Mike Sielski was involved in this conversation for Hextall to mention the word "culture" so many times.

Bellows: Son of Brian is a hard driving power player who also has skill. Has size and gains advantage when he puts it to use. He is strong on the puck, shows a separation gear. Plays passionately ands on occasion gotten edgy.
Can stickhandle in tight spaces is slippery on the attack, and able to go wide on defenders. He has quick jump in his stop/starts, and will get rolling and continues North-South with authority. His main attribute is his shot. A goal scorer. He has one of the best shots in the draft. He lets it go lightning fast and hard, and with accuracy. Finds the seam, gets in and free and let’s it fly. Needs to continue to shore up his game in his own end, his play when he doesn’t have the puck, and better commitment to his defensive zone responsibilities. And you have to wish he could just be a little more physical in all phases. He has committed to Boston University.

Jones: Big aggressive winger who plays a passionate high energy aggressive style. Has a strong powerful stride. Is more of a North-South skater who bulls his way through to wherever he is going and crash and bangs. Has a strong shot that packs some wallop, but there is also wallop when he drops’em. He is know to stick up for teammates and gets them more space because of it. In short space he will accelerate and meet opponents on the wall or in the paint. Has a heavy quick shot that needs to gain more accuracy. He is known to catch opponents with big open ice checks. Displays high character along with toughness, size and feisty 200 foot game. A streaky scorer and the jury is out as to whether he can contribute heavily in that aspect. Plays like an old fashion grinder, who may gain more consistency as a finisher as he develops. But he may end up as a checker who can chip in a goal here or there.

Gauthier: Big winger with a strong fluid with a terrific shot and release. He uses his body to to take pucks away, and win possession battles in the offensive zone. A big man with soft hands, a great one-timer and a willingness to go in the dirty areas and in the front. He can change gears and surprise defenders by beating them off the wing. Q defenders get caught in denial thinking no way can a guy this big be that explosive. Needs to develop more as a play-maker, and get pucks to his linemates as well as they feed him. He is a a North-South skater who depends upon his linemates to get him the puck. His game needs rounding out, but looks like an excellent prospect.

I am curious to see what happens to the coaching staff.

I could see Murphy retained.

Wonder if Lappy and Mullen are? I think they need a new perspective on the PP and PK units.
