Watched the final 25-30 minutes, and I didn't see the Pens suffering from "size" issues. They looked every bit like they could keep up with and possibly beat the Caps. And that's with their Letang+Ragtags for d men and midget speedsters. It's amazing what puck skills and speed and aggressive tactics at all strengths can do. - Mononoke
SO you think the DOPS reviews Wilsons knee on knee with Sheary.
Thought that was a clear intent to injure and just dirty. - J35Bacher
Agree with this!
I'm still wondering what game Wilson is playing?
It's almost as if he doesn't need a stick in his hands, all he does is freight train, (charging), across the ice & tries to knock everyone into next week.
Charging is more than 3 strides, not 23.

matt murray kind of sucked tonight. - hammarby31
I didn't think he was all that great in the Rangers series either. I think the Pens will win the series if they get goaltending from Murray like in the regular season. he plays like he has so far in the playoffs its not happening
Awesome article. With all the fancy stats/ possession metrics, I didn't realize coots was that good. It looked like he took a huge step forward this year, that much was visibly apparent.
This article also helped me understand the fancy stats a little better and how to read them/ what they mean. Thanks for sharing!
Just curious because not a 100% sure but if there is an expansion draft will the Flyers have to protect one of the goalies if both are on the roster the full year?
Wonder if that is why Hextall mentioned about listening on the goalies. Would they try to move one instead of losing one in an expansion draft.

Yes they would have to protect one, and I do think what you mentioned is a possibility. It has happened before as well. If they are playing well I doubt they make a trade just to not risk losing one to expansion.
I think it is fair to say that Mason or Neuvirth is going to be their best draft eligible player, despite the fact that I think there might be better goalie targets for the expansion team(s)

Agreed. It finally started to make a little sense to me. My eyes didn't glaze over!
The Caps/Pens series should be a ton of fun. Lots of skill is that series and 2 goalies playing well.
The Blues/Stars series will be tight, probably not the most dazzling play, but arguably the most physical.
Preds/Sharks gives you the NHL's premier playoff choking team versus a Predators team that finally has some offense to compliment their defense. The defense only gets better as Weber's playoff beard grows. It may get 22 minutes a night by the end.
Tampa Bay/Islanders...okay, honestly, I don't give a poop. - jmatchett383
I find the western teams put me to sleep. Only because of apathy. I just don't care about the west at all.
I want Tampa to win it. They have an easy ride to get in compared to the rest
Nashville I will root for if Lava punches players in the head
Yeah but I think the draft hits before Free Agency starts. So they'd technically be under contract? Maybe not. I keep confusing myself. - steelydan
Yeah it is next year at the earliest. It is still a bit messy with situations like that, but with all the proposed rules, I cant imagine UFAs to be arent included. One of the proposed rules is exposing 24% of the cap....how is that possible without the entire team in the running?

I have difficulty remembering Couts is still only 23 years old. Looks so much older.
I think it's like the Umberger situation. They would have to protect him even though its his last year due to the NMC. - J35Bacher
They'd only be forced to protect them if they have NMCs. But yes, UFAs-to-be are still subject to the draft.
The scarier thing is that Stolarz, who looks like a potential goalie of the future,w ill have to be protected as well. So if they decide to bail on one of Neuvirth/Mason before the expansion draft, they'll have to choose between that goalie and Stolarz being unprotected. If you hold onto both, then you protect Stolarz, leave Mason and Neuvirth unprotected, and hopefully resign the other one before UFA.
Yeah right ... Vancouver is probably a lot warmer than the east coast of the States. It rarely snows there and when it does it only lasts a few days.
I live on the north coast of BC and it even is not that bad.
