Watched the final 25-30 minutes, and I didn't see the Pens suffering from "size" issues. They looked every bit like they could keep up with and possibly beat the Caps. And that's with their Letang+Ragtags for d men and midget speedsters. It's amazing what puck skills and speed and aggressive tactics at all strengths can do. |

Maybe we can trade Matt Read for him, since Read's the better player

I hope the Flyers and Hakstol pay attention to this series. The Sullivan model can be achieved and then some with our prospects on the back end. Just add skill and speed and smarts up front. |

Pens outplayed them much of the game
Could have easily stole that one
Maata had a bad play but thought the rest of them were good

Pens d, which is a hodgepodge of cast offs, young depth guys, and Letang don't block shots and retreat -- they get up on you and get the puck and do things with it. Flyers d can be that on steroids in a couple years. The aggression with which everyone plays with is fun hockey: d men pinches galore, ram speed down the Caps throat. Watching their PK made me chuckle out our inept strategy. They just smothered Backstrom and were flying all over.
All this can lead to ugly mistakes, but the Pens are showing all the weaknesses of the Caps with a worse roster than them. Slow physical grind em out lane clogging hockey means jack poop when the other team thinks quicker and skates faster than you. I'm actually rooting for them. |

Our D doesn't have the quickness to pressure the puck like that
Maybe someday soon |

Man, if the Stanley Cup Final was Sharks or Stars vs. Penguins (Pens can screw it at that point lol), that might be one of the craziest, most fun series in a while. That'd sure win over a lot of new hockey fans if they watched. |

The only one's who can't physically do that are Schultz and Streit. AMac is mentally incapable. Idk...Ghost, Medve*hiccup*dev, Gudas, MDZ (pre injury), Manning...they all could do that. Pens still have Lovejoy and Dumoulin, etc.. What we don't have is the speed up front. Imagine that strategy with their forward corps and our d prospect corps...that's something to aspire to. Not to beat the Caps at their own game when they've never even made it past the 2nd round.
Pens are a better team than us, but the passivity stuff killed me. We aren't that devoid of speed and skill. Some more would be nice. |

I hope Leier gets a shot next season, he can really skate. Bellemare can play that kind of pressure D. Read used to be able to but he's lost a step.
Caps are not all big and slow. Burakowski was flying tonight.
Wilson is just a douche and I think he sits now after that knee in knee. |

I didn't mean all the Caps were big and or slow (d kinda is minus Orlov). Lord knows Kuzy and Burakovsky and Ovi can fly. They've got smart slick players like Williams and Backstrom and Oshie. But Trotz does not have his system push the pace like the Pens. They tend to be passive in their own right at times. Block shots, occupy lanes, dump ins etc.. As good as their PP was, we generally matched them at evens (game 5 aside). We should not be matching them. Pens really took it to them minus the end result. |

The problem with the pens system is the same as when Laviolette coaches the Flyers: pushing the pace leads to turnovers by the defensemen and quality chances (odd man rushes, break always, Ext) the other way. Washington didn't have as many shots but probably had an equal amount of dangerous scoring chances if not more. The Penguins were able to overwhelm the Rangers cause the Rangers forwards stick and their defensemen couldn't move the puck. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the playoffs unfold for them against better competition. |
