People would be so pissed if they draft jost.
- jmatchett383

I think Jost is a player with no weaknesses. And he's 6'...I mean he isn't 5'7". I'm not sure how high his offensive ceiling truly is. I only saw him 3 games at U18s, and he broke McDavid's points record, but the weird thing was it was not necessarily through electric or highlight reel plays. Just smart, Johnny on spot, always know where to be in all zones hockey...and skill thrown in obviously. That's where a Toews comparison works. Maybe he doesn't score quite that much -- more like a 55-60 point Stepan. But I for one am a fan. Him and Coots and G down the middle would be an absolute nightmare for teams: 3 centers who can match up against anyone and score.

I'm sceptical of Howie/Pederson's eye for QB talent with their first two acquisitions being Chase Daniel and Carson Wentz and spending valuable assets to get them(whether it being $$$ or picks).
- Nucker101

I've been concerned with Howie's eye for talent since Marcus Smith lol.

I think they outbid themselves on Chase Daniel. I get that signing though, and don't mind it. He's more of a coach/mentor/insurance policy.

I hope I'm wrong about Wentz, I really do. Time will tell.

Was there anything more to that Hockey Central comment yesterday about the Flyers being linked to Jimmy Vesey other than that one line of speculation?
- five4fighting10

Sounded like generic scuttlebutt, but I will happily eat my shorts if he signs.

I don't mind him, but he's not 6'3 or bigger, which seems to be a criteria for some people. My only worry is that he's playing Junior A right now, so he hasn't seen the same level as guys playing in the CHL/NCAA/European pro level.

A lot. But since we're talking about draft fantasy land, just figured I'd chime in.

Our 2016 1st, to start
Probably Simmonds
Sanheim
One of Laughton/Stolarz/Lyon

Not giving up Provorov, Ghost, Morin, or Konecny. After that, all of our prospects are in play for one of the Finns, assuming they are coming to NA next year.

- jmatchett383

If it's Laughton I'll sign off now. Not quite sure how I feel about moving one of the young goalies. Maybe.

At 17-18 I am hoping for Bellows or Jones.
- J35Bacher

One should be available. I don't dislike Jones like I do Gauthier -- his package is way better. He has hockey sense questions too though. If Rubtsov and Bellows are gone, or the Flyers scouts are down on one, Jones wouldn't be the worst pick. I just don't think he's the best pick. Bellows doesn't have his natural package, but damn is he just so smart out there on and off the puck for a PWF-sniper. That kid will find the back of the net in the NHL many times over, without any real holes in his game.

i was thinking more of Denver because there' would be 0 pressure for bradford to perform since they just won the superbowl
- 2Real

Denver will eat Bradford alive. That city is a one team town and that team wears Orange and Blue.

Bradford's second half was top-10 last year... He has the potential to be top-5 once he gets back all his lower body strength, and manages to stay healthy.
- JFlyers00

Top 10 in what? That is literally the most optimistic view of Sam Bradford Ive ever read. I dont even hate the guy. It is stupid he is asking for a trade because the reality is that he is still the starter and him playing well would be good for the Eagles. Just because they are picking Wentz does not mean they need to get rid of Bradford

I never saw him play for the Vees (duh), but he was Canada's best player at the u18s. Whatever doubts scouts had they are probably gone playing against top international competition. Rubtsov might be just as good -- I've seen a Kopitar-lite comparison. He is 6'2"-6'3" for those that care. All around 2-way beast potentially. Flyers under Hexy really like their Russians, so I trust them to get a grasp on him. Jost isn't lasting till 18. Rubtsov might very well. And there may be no drop off. Maybe. I ain't in Russia haha.

Ryan Suter?

Mike Reilly. All college FAs get overhyped...few pan out like their hype. But it's basically a free player, so hitting on even a Matt Read is a huge win. Vesey could be very good. I've never seen him once though, but he's one of the bigger names in a while I think. He'd be a bigger snag than Caligula.

That's...actually not the player

I think it started with an F? I remember the Flyers were in on him.

Interesting on Vesey. I'd absolutely take a shot on him- like you said. Free player.

I'm just trying to get a feel for how good he could actually be. Ignoring the hype

I could see Gauthier scoring 25 goals or so in a heavily sheltered role. If he gets remotely close to 60 points in the NHL, I will be in shock.

I like Jost and Brown a lot, but that's trade up territory. McAvoy could fall. He's the only top guy I've never seen (Rubtsov too actually), and I'm not sure where his stock is. I think McKenzie's recent list had him top 15. A bit surprising but I've heard good things. So not really. My dream is a trade up for Keller who I think has a higher ceiling than Jost and Brown, but could go after them. He strikes me as one of the steals of the draft if he goes 11-13. Short of that: Rubtsov or Bellows at our pick.

- Mononoke

BU’s impressive freshman d-man is the lone major prospect I had the pleasure of seeing play live. I saw BU play at Yale, and McAvoy was one of the most impressive performers in the game. He is a complete and competitive defenseman. He plays the body well on the rush and has a strong stick in the corners. Offensively he rushes the puck very well, and does a decent job deking around defenders. His decision making and vision off the rush leaves a little to be desired, as McAvoy doesn’t always do a great job finding his teammates and sometimes forces plays. McAvoy has all the tools and can play both sides of the puck very well. BU’s system forces McAvoy to play big minutes and as such can expend to much energy rushing the puck all over the ice.

I think McAvoy is awesome, and his offensive game is pretty underrated. A dream scenario of mine is we draft him and then use Hagg and Chicago's pick to go after Tage THompson or Dillon Dube.

Kyle Flanagan

For very Read/Gustafsson that you "hit" on, you miss on a handful of Testwuide/Flanagan/Holmstrom/Alderson types. But, like you said, free players.

This is going to be a YUGE offseason folds, believe me about this. For far too long we've been a victim of trade deals that have been a disaster for the Flyers. Far too frequently other teams have been benefitted from these deals while Philly has suffered from Lindros to Williams to Carter and Richards to JVR to AMac. This offseason we're going to make deals that put Philly first. Philly will come out ahead on these deals or they won't be done. It's simple we've done deals in the past that were successful (Vinny and Schenn) and we'll continue that streak of winning.

In addition, we will sign the best players, THE BEST, this offseason and they will be under budget. Beleeeeeeve me when I say this, we've signed players to friendly deals before (Couturier). We will also LEGALLY deport our bad players (AMac) to where they came from and only allow the best back in. We will make the Islanders pay for sending their undesirables here. This will be done LEGALLY folks.

Also, we're taking no handout money from the NHL this is self funded (unlike Pissburgh) and the establishment doesn't like this. The DOS is rigged against us, but we will fight through this to make Philly great again folk. We will fight Schenn's suspension until the end. We will not meddle in affairs of other teams and get rid of this globalism that is killing the Flyers. We will make other teams pay the brunt of keeping broke teams afloat. We will focus on Philly first and Philly will be winning again.

As a a result, we'll begin winning so much over the next few years. We'll be brining in only the best from other countries (Provorov, Lindbolm, Fazelev). We'll start winning so much we'll start sweeping teams in the playoffs 5-0. Yea, I know folks we'll some how win more games needed to take a series. Our nickname will become Philly 5-0.

I'd put his chances at signing with not the Bruins or Leafs at 5%. Every team would take him. Supposedly Caligula is deciding between Philly and Vancooover.
