I think the thing with the Sedin's is you need options.
Players seem to work well for a handful of games, then disappear.
It is optimal to have 2-3 players that can rotate into that spot to mix things up and keep the opposition guessing.
Hansen, Sutter and Burrows in a pinch would be my guess for next season.
With a sprinkling of Rodin and/or JV to see if any magic can be bottled. - dbot
If we get either of the Finns? That would give us 4 different options to play with the twins. Hansen, Sutter, Burrows or one of the 2 Finns. The biggest thing missing from our debacle of a PP is a hard shooting RH pint man. |

I don't see Benning signing him if he wasn't convinced he was now NHL ready |

Would yoube surprised to see Rodin with the twins? - VANTEL
Haven't seen much of him since he played with the wolves and at that time I don't think he looked like the type of player that would succeed with them.
I imagine he gets the 2nd RW spot next to either Bo or Sutter.
I could definitely see him on the top PP with the Sedins though. |

The thing about Rodin that often gets overlooked, ignored was that he had a serious shoulder injury when playing in NA before which was never dealt with.
He was a really good prospect when he was drafted but was never able to get healthy until he went back to europe, it shouldn't of been a big surprise to see him do as well there when you look at where he was at pre-draft.
I don't know if he will be able to make the same impact as Panarin has this season but there is a huge (frank)ing difference between overage ( not over age ) Fox tearing it up in the OHL with McDavid and Rodin tearing it up with his peers in Europe. |

2 year extension for Granlund - Codes1087
As long as they aren't afraid to send him to the AHL if he gets outplayed I have no problem with that. |

terms have not be released, nor has the money.
I imagine its a 1-way contract and a bridge one at that. (I hope ) |

I disagree, I think he suits there style very well, the Sedins don't need someone to just sit in front of the net.
They need players to retrieve pucks and be able to shoot in the offensive zone and someone with speed to cover for them if the puck goes the other direction.
Burrows in his prime did this and Hansen has been able to as well. I really like Hansen with Bo as well but he has for years when given the chance made the Sedins better players and last year we saw him able to convert a high % of his opportunities. - belcherbd
Over the last four seasons he's averaged more goals than assists. This season was a career high with 22 goals. 16 assists.
The only way you need a guy to retrieve pucks for the twins is if you employ a dump and chase style. You would have to be a (frank)ing dummy coach to employ that scheme with the twins.
The twins gain the zone off the rush and then set up the cycle. Once the cycle is set they have no problems controlling the puck down low. IMO, they play their best hockey coming out of the corners to the net.
So what role does Hansen play in that scheme?
Hansen's skills are better used on other lines and goes beyond being a retriever for the twins. |

I agree with all of this. Problem with the sedins is tactically to stop them is you place 1 guy in between them to prevent the pass. As good as they are they are extremely predictable, which is why they arent as good in the playoffs. The answer to this is versatility in their wingers, which is why burrows was so effective with them for years his versatile game he had. Since most are pretty 1 dimensional though you need several options and when 1 gets shut down by opposition then use a winger with a different skill set....changes the way the entire line plays.
Personally I wouldnt ride a winger with them for long stretches. Instead use the winger change through a game to suit the need. Offensive zone vs defensive zone, Need for speed vs net presence etc. 5on5 vs PP etc. |
