Karlsson is one of the best players in the league. |

For me, Murray's legacy issue is having gone with soft semi-skill when the option with a budget team needed to be a roster with size.
The western teams that are recent Cup contenders and the Bruins all got the size ideal right. If Cheapo needed to save a few bucks, you go under on top end players until the deadline, then add to a lineup with a late skill guy or two in the good years.
The Bruins are always feast or famine, but when they make the playoffs, they are always contenders to win because they can dominate physically.
Our puny, soft lineup, even in an up year would never go 4 rounds without half the scorers going down.
At least if the strategy is in a low year you will still run over the guys that beat you. Better than getting squished and going nowhere. |

Like someone else already said, Karlsson is a great, if not the best offensive defenseman, but he is far from the best defenseman in the league. Just because the media who vote for the Norris are A) eastern homers, and B) suckers for points does not make him the best defenseman in the league. I would take Weber, Doughty, Keith, Seabrook, Pietrangelo, Burns all over him as more complete defensemen and that's off the top of my head. No discredit to his offensive ability but there are plenty of others I build a team around first. But he would be up on the list. |

Not sure why everyone is restating what Jared said in the blog about Russians, but the bigger theme that should be taken from this is Murray built a good team (Turris) during his time here. Not a great team (Tarashenko) or a bust of a team (Runblad).
For me, he will always be linked to the premature departures of the 3 best players this team has ever seen in Spezza, Alfie, and Heatley. Pretty black eye, even if he did get us Karlsson.
I don't mind his other moves overall. At least he tried to make this team better. You do have to take risks as a GM or be like Marc Bergiven in Montreal and just stay pat and hope you somehow win it all with one player.
I'm hoping Dorian is an active GM with a different mindset and not afraid to make a big change or two to try and redirect this team in a new direction. - Gord_Wilson_2.0
Thank you, at least someone got the correlation... |

I've quite enjoyed you blogs in the last few weeks. Hitting on topics that are applicable, but not often discussed. Good work.
Your line "There is a string of failed attempts as the Sens went through coaches like Joe Nieuwendyk shots through Patrick Lalime's 5 hole in game 7s." was funny and sad at the same time. What might have been.

Lol burns...really a guy who is clearly worse offensively and defensively is better than Karlsson? And Pietrangelo is clearly the 3rd best dman behind Karlsson/Doughty in the 2008 draft, so try again.
